The apocryphal Book of Enoch, suppressed by the Church and then lost for many centuries, is believed to have been written in the first century or earlier. This edition-translated by British biblical scholar R. H. CHARLES (1855-1931) and first published in 1917-tells the story of the fallen angels, who appeal to Enoch the Prophet, great-grandson of Noah, to speak with God on their behalf after He banishes them from heaven. Enoch travels to heaven, describing what he sees there in detail, and speaks with the angels and ponders their nature. "The Book of Jubilees -- "also known as "The Little Genesis -- "purports to be a divine revelation delivered by an angel from God to Moses during the prophet's sojourn on Mount Sinai. Chiefly based upon the historical narratives in Genesis and Exodus, the book probably originated as a Jewish apocalyptical work. It also contains a fascinating variety of material not found in the Bible, including details concerning the Fall, Cain and Abel, angels, the Flood, the Tower of Babel, Jacob's visions, the Messianic Kingdom, and many other subjects.

However, by the fourth century AD the text was considered heretical and all extant copies were destroyed. It was not until the 18th century that a surviving Ethiopic version was found, and its ideas and beliefs could once again be made known to the world. 'The Book of Enoch' tells of the enigmatic Watchers, fallen angels who breed with human females and give rise to the race of Nephilim, evil giants who wreak havoc on earth, and are destroyed by The Flood. Following sections describe Visions, of a messiah-like Son of God, of the Astronomical/Spiritual make-up of the Universe, and of the apocalyptic Final Judgment to be visited upon evil-doers. The R H Charles translation remains the standard English version of the text and is presented here in its entirety.
