Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not
used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad
quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are
images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to
keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the
original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain
imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made
available for future generations to enjoy.

"The Executive Search Collaboration" presents a new perspective
on the single most critical function of any organization: finding,
attracting, and retaining the well-qualified executives for key
senior management openings. Written by leading executive search
consultants and human resources executives, the book provides
comprehensive coverage of the mechanics of business executive
recruitment, focusing particularly on the interaction between
corporate personnel professionals and the headhunters who serve
them. Numerous examples drawn from real-life experiences enhance
the detailed coverage of the entire search process--from the
fundamental elements of choosing an executive search firm and
interviewing candidates through complex and sensitive issues such
as the recruitment of minorities and the international executive
search.
Editor Jones-Parker's introduction sets the tone for the
discussions that follow by providing an overview of the synergistic
relationship between human resources professionals and executive
search consultants. Part I, on the executive search process,
includes chapters on the inner workings of the corporate personnel
department and the typical high-level search firm as well as a
chapter that goes behind the business headlines to reveal details
of the most dramatic searches--those for top executives of large
corporations. The second section provides a micro-view of the
search business and covers the range of services consultants bring
to their clients. Individual chapters address research,
assessments, closure, and termination. The final section focuses on
the three most dynamic areas of the search collaboration:
minorities and women, executive recruitment by and for the Federal
government, and the globalization of the executive search. The
concluding chapter features a dialogue between a senior human
resources executive and an experienced search consultant which
addresses key issues for the future. Managers and executives on
both sides of the executive search collaboration--corporate human
resources executives and their outside consultants--will find "The
Executive Search Collaboration" an indispensable and addition to
their professional libraries.

Almost nowhere are politics and history so intimately bound up as
in Ireland. Over the course of several hundred years rival
political and religious camps have shaped their identities
according to particular interpretations of their shared history. As
such, any re-examination and revision of Irish history has the
potential to have a very real impact upon wider society. Defining
revisionism in historiography as a reaction to contemporary
conflict in Ireland, this book looks at how intellectuals, scholars
and those who were politically involved, have reacted to a crisis
of violence. It explores how they believed that revisionism in
historiography was necessary - that a deconstruction,
re-evaluation, and revision of ideology and therefore history was
crucial in such a crisis of violence. This at times provocative
approach seeks to better understand, clarify and de-mystify the
ongoing revisionist debate in Ireland, through a critique and
exposition of the theory of change and the process and product of
change. Perry argues that revisionism should not be seen as solely
a neutral form of academic or intellectual discourse, but one that
is fundamentally linked to politics at the widest possible level;
that revisionist assumptions underpin the validity and legitimacy
of partition and the Northern Ireland state; that revisionism is
widely judged to be anti-nationalist and pro-unionist; and that it
is myopic with regard to the shortcomings of loyalism and unionism
and has therefore a related ideological effect, if not intended
purpose.
A great designer offers you a virtuoso tour through the world of
sailboats Bob Perry initiated the trend toward fast voyaging
sailboats with his world-famous Valiant 40, which has been in
production longer than any other cruising sailboat in history. But
Perry is not only a leading yacht designer--he is also an
accomplished wordsmith whose blunt, insightful, irreverent, and
always entertaining boat reviews have captivated readers of Sailing
magazine for 24 years. This book is vintage Perry, a
no-holds-barred tour of the world of yacht design through the
benchmark boats of his 30-year career.

Garden Meditation-Cultivating Peace is a humorous and inspiring
book of 320 pages about life, gardening and meditation. It uniquely
presents Buddhist teachings within a garden context, using
gardening analogies to highlight the natural aspect of that gentle
tradition. Authored by a Buddhist monk and keen gardener it offers
a stimulating read. For those looking to delve deeper simple
meditations are presented at the end of each chapter. 160 colour
photos illustrate the text. Gardening is a cultivation of the
external environment, meditation of the internal environment. A
vibrant garden full of healthy plants depends on first removing the
rocks and weeds, then enriching the soil with plenty of organic
matter. Likewise in meditation we remove causes of unhappiness,
such as anger, worry, loneliness and depression, and cultivate a
more joyful and compassionate approach to life. Then all
enlightened qualities can flourish. In the darkness of winter a
rose bed appears just a bunch of thorny sticks, giving no sign of
the potential held inside. However when nurtured by warmth and
spring rains, a glorious range of colour and perfume emerges.
Likewise when feeling a bit bleak and thorny oneself,
dissatisfaction and irritation so easily arising, we have no
inkling of the potential for enlightenment that lies within. But
through the inspiration of age old spiritual teachings, gradually
come the happiness, love, insight and peace we have long missed.
This book sets out a series of small steps along the way.

this quest.
The United States Constitution, as amended, is a complex legal
document which sets out the structure of the federal government,
the legal authorities of that government (and, to a lesser extent,
state governments), and, finally, a series of legal disabilities on
the exercise of those authorities (such as protections for
individual rights). The document also addresses the complicated
legal relationship between the federal government, state
governments, and the persons subject to their respective
jurisdictions. Judicial interpretation of some of the
Constitution's provisions, however, has varied over the last two
centuries, leading to concerns regarding the ultimate validity of
these decisions. This book examines the historical basis for
theories of constitutional interpretation, and the role of judicial
precedent and pragmatism. Also discussed are the theories relating
to the identification and justification of heightened
constitutional protections for fundamental rights.
