Double feature starring Basil Rathbone as detective Sherlock
Holmes. In 'Sherlock Holmes in Washington' (1943), Holmes and
Doctor Watson (Nigel Bruce) go to Washington DC in search of some
missing micro-film which must not, on any account, fall into the
wrong hands: ie, the Nazis. The film is notably cheeky for its WW2
propaganda - and Watson's fixation with American bubblegum. In
'Sherlock Holmes Faces Death' (1943), Holmes and Watson are hot on
the heels of a murderer who has killed a number of retired officers
in their retirement home. They check in to the mansion-like home
with its mysterious clock-tower, underground crypt and incredible
human chess-board and do their best to solve the murders.
This is a comprehensive work summarizing the current state of
knowledge of the biology of the hard ticks (Acari: Ixodidae) of
Southern Africa (South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Swaziland,
Lesotho and Maputo Province, Mozambique). It provides an overview
of the history of tick research in Southern Africa and the
evolution of our knowledge of the ticks' distribution and biology,
as well as the methods used to determine tick distribution,
abundance and host preference. The morphologies of most of the tick
species known to occur in Southern Africa are described and
illustrated, and their distributions are described and mapped in
relation to the biomes of the region. The known hosts for each tick
species are listed, and the tick's host preferences are discussed.
Information on most species life cycle in the laboratory and the
field, and their seasonal occurrence, is summarized. The diseases
of animals and humans transmitted or caused by each tick species
are summarized in relation to tick ecology. Aspects of the biology
of the major hosts relevant to tick infestations are described, and
extensive tick/host and host/tick lists are provided for each
country
Double feature starring Basil Rathbone as detective Sherlock
Holmes. In 'The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes' (1939), Professor
Moriarity (George Zucco) has come up with a scheme for stealing the
crown jewels from the Tower of London. To get Holmes involved, he
persuades a flute player to murder a girl. In 'Sherlock Holmes and
the Secret Weapon' (1943), Holmes travels to Switzerland to rescue
the inventor of a bomb-sight which the allies want to keep from the
Nazis. Back in London, however, it turns out that the inventor is
not all that he seemed...

Right, you know the rules, watch the low blows, if it's a
knock-down no messing about, go straight to your corner, and don't
come out till called for, are we clear? Touch gloves, let's go. In
the red corner: Leon Davidson - Black British champ or Uncle Tom?
In the blue corner: Troy Augustus - American powerhouse or naive
cash cow? Having spent their youth in the same London boxing gym,
vying for the favouritism of inspirational, foul-mouthed trainer
Charlie Maggs, the two former friends step into the ring and face
up to who they are. Boxing has dominated their lives with an
unhoped-for structure and meaning, but it becomes clear that it is
no substitute for their health, family, and friends. Roy Williams'
Sucker Punch looks back on what it was like to be young and black
in the 1980s and asks if the right battles have been fought, let
alone won. With an introduction by Harry Derbyshire, Lecturer in
English and Drama at the University of Greenwich.
When Creon refuses to bury the body of Antigone's unruly brother,
Antigone's anger quickly turns to defiance. Creon condemns her to a
torturous death: she's to be buried alive. Acclaimed playwright Roy
Williams takes Sophocles' play and, by placing it into a
contemporary setting, brings this classic tale vividly to life. A
timeless story about loyalty and truth, about how we make meaning
out of life and death, and what in the end really does matter. Roy
Williams's adaptation of Antigone received its world premiere on 19
September at Derby Theatre, in a co-production between Pilot
Theatre, Derby Theatre and Theatre Royal, Stratford East, before
going on a national tour.
Double feature starring Basil Rathbone as detective Sherlock
Holmes. 'Pursuit to Algiers' (1945) is Rathbone's 12th outing as
the master detective. When the King of Rovenia is assassinated,
Holmes is hired to accompany Nicholas, the heir to that country's
throne, on his journey back home. Travelling by ocean liner to
Algiers, Holmes and Watson (Nigel Bruce) take on a series of
assassins and kidnappers as they fight to keep their young charge
from suffering any harm. In 'The Woman in Green' (1945), Holmes and
Dr Watson are called in to help solve a series of mysterious
murders in which the victims are left without their right
forefingers. The infallible twosome discover a link between a
female hypnotist and a blackmail venture, which leads them
inevitably to Holmes' arch-enemy, Moriarty (Henry Daniell).
Double feature starring Basil Rathbone as detective Sherlock
Holmes. In 'Sherlock Holmes and the Spider Woman (1944), a strange
female villain is discovered to be behind a series of deaths
wherein the victims are driven to suicide after being bitten by
poisonous spiders, Holmes finds it easier to move around
undetected. But Spedding may be a true match for him... The film
climaxes with the famous scene of Holmes tied up and gagged behind
a target in a shooting gallery, with Watson aiming a loaded pistol
at it. In 'Sherlock Holmes and the Pearl of Death (1944), the
famous Borgia pearl is stolen from a courier aboard a channel
ferry, and the thief enlists the help of a clergyman to smuggle the
gem through customs. Naturally, the clergyman turns out to be
Holmes in disguise, and he returns the pearl to its rightful owner.
However, it is promptly stolen again by the arch criminal Giles
Conover (Miles Mander). Holmes must retrieve the pearl yet again -
but first he has to overcome Conover's formidable associate, 'The
Creeper'.
One of the most successful basketball coaches in the nation, Coach
Roy Williams has traveled an unlikely path. In "Hard Work," he
tells the story of his life, from his turbulent childhood through a
coaching career with the highest of highs and the lowest of lows.
and in a new afterword, Williams takes us past the two NCAA
Championship titles to the subsequent season, with its shake-up
losses and the unexpected departure of key players, to a new season
coaching some of the most dazzling players in the country to an ACC
regular-season championship.Williams recounts how he recruits,
teaches, and motivates his players; how he's shepherded teams
through some of the most nail-biting games at both Kansas and UNC;
and how he coached his team through one of the roughest seasons of
his tenure and came out the other side to be awarded 2011 ACC Coach
of the Year. So far, the Hall of Famer has coached in seven Final
Fours, winning two NCAA championships within five seasons.
Double feature starring Basil Rathbone as detective Sherlock
Holmes. In 'Sherlock Holmes and the Scarlet Claw (1944), strange
deaths and rumours of a mysterious phantom bring Holmes and Watson
(Nigel Bruce) to a small village in Canada to solve yet another
mystery. In 'Sherlock Holmes and the House of Fear' (1945), seven
rich men retire to a Scottish castle and promptly begin to die in
violent fashion. Each death is preceded by the delivery of orange
pips to the next target. As all the likely victims are heavily
insured, Holmes is asked by the insurance companies to investigate.
