Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not
used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad
quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are
images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to
keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the
original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain
imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made
available for future generations to enjoy.

This new edition of Soil Erosion Research Methods retains the
themes and layout of the first edition. However, most chapters have
been revised and some additional chapters have been added. There
are new chapters on modeling wind and water erosion. Extensive
revisions and updating have been done in chapters dealing with
assessment of erosivity and erodibility, erosion, crop
productivity, measuring sediment yield from river basins and field
plot techniques. There is extensive updating of current statistics
on the global magnitude of soil erosion by water and wind and on
denudation rates. Several new authors have made significant
improvements in revising and updating available information.
The publication Keys to Soil Taxonomy serves two purposes. It
provides the taxonomic keys necessary for the classification of
soils in a form that can be used easily in the field. It also
acquaints users of the taxonomic system with recent changes in the
system. The eleventh edition of the Keys to Soil Taxonomy
incorporates all changes approved since the publication of the
second edition of Soil Taxonomy: A Basic System of Soil
Classification for Making and Interpreting Soil Surveys (1999). One
of the most significant changes in the eleventh edition is the
addition of the suborders Wassents and Wassists for subaqueous
Entisols and Histosols.
This first in-depth study of women's politeness examines the
complex relationship individuals had with the discursive ideals of
polite femininity. Contextualising women's autobiographical
writings (journals and letters) with a wide range of
eighteenth-century printed didactic material, it analyses the
tensions between politeness discourse which aimed to regulate
acceptable feminine identities and women's possibilities to resist
this disciplinary regime. Ylivuori focuses on the central role the
female body played as both the means through which individuals
actively fashioned themselves as polite and feminine, and the
supposedly truthful expression of their inner status of polite
femininity.
Icelandic patternwork has always been popular in the knitting world
and now so more than ever! Icelandic Knits features 8 trending
Finnish knitwear designers and featuring their own interpretations
of the famous lopapeysa jumper. The designs include a mix of the
more traditional as well as some designs with a modern twist, such
as addition of a hood or creating a cardigan instead of a jumper.
There are also instructions for hand-dyeing the yarn to personalise
your look. Including a collection of 18 sweater designs for women,
men and children. The instructions are presented with clear
diagrams and stunning photographs showcasing the stunning
landscapes of Lapland that will make you yearn for the cosy jumpers
and Nordic Noir.
This innovative volume focuses on tourism through the twin lenses
of cultural theory and cultural geography. Presenting a set of
innovative case studies on tourist destinations around the world,
the contributors explore the paradoxes of the tourist experience
and the implications of these paradoxes for our broader
understanding of the problems of modernity and identity. The book
examines how tourism reveals the paradoxical ways that places are
both mobile and rooted, real and fake, inhabited by those who are
simultaneously insiders and outsiders, and both subjectively
experienced and objectively viewed. The concepts of travel and
mobility long have been used to explain modern identity and social
behavior, but this work pushes beyond the established literature by
considering the ways that place and mobility are inherently related
in unexpected, even contradictory ways. Travel, the international
cast of authors contends, occurs 'in place' rather than 'between
places.' Thus, instead of offering yet another interpretation of
the ways modern societies are distinguished by their mobilities-in
contrast to the supposed place-bound quality of traditional
societies-the chapters here collectively argue for an understanding
of modern identity as simultaneously grounded and mobile. This rich
blend of empirical and theoretical analysis will be invaluable for
cultural geographers, anthropologists, and sociologists of tourism.
