A Nightmare On Elm Street
Nancy (Heather Langenkamp) is having grisly nightmares. Meanwhile, her high-school friends, who are having the very same dreams, are being slaughtered in their sleep by the hideous fiend of their shared nightmares. When the police ignore her explanation, she herself must confront the killer in his shadowy realm... From modern horror master Wes Craven comes a timeless shocker that remains the standard bearer for terror. Featuring Johnny Depp in his first starring role, this horror classic gave birth to one of the most infamous undead villains in cinematic history: Freddy Krueger.

A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge
Five years have passed since Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) was sent howling back to hell. But now, a new kid on Elm Street is being haunted every night by gruesome visions of the deadly dream stalker and if his twisted soul takes possession of the boy's body, Freddy will return from the dead to wreak bloody murder and mayhem upon the entire town.

A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors
The last of the Elm Street kids are now at a psychiatric ward where Freddy haunts their dreams with unspeakable horrors. Their only hope is dream researcher and fellow survivor Nancy Thompson (Heather Langenkamp of the original Nightmare), who helps them battle the supernatural psycho on his own hellish turf.

A Nightmare On Elm Street 4: The Dream Master
Proving there's no rest for the wicked, the unspeakably evil Freddy Krueger is again resurrected from the grave to wreak havoc upon those who dare to dream. As her friends succumb one by one to Freddy's wrath, telepathically gifted Kristen embarks on a desperate mission to destroy the satanic dream stalker and release the tortured souls of his victims once and for all.

A Nightmare On Elm Street 5: The Dream Child
Unable to overpower the Dream Master who vanquished him in A Nightmare On Elm Street 4, Freddy haunts the innocent dreams of her unborn child and preys upon her friends with sheer horror. Will the child be saved from becoming Freddy's newest weapon or will the maniac again resurrect his legacy of evil?

A Nightmare On Elm Street 6: Freddy's Dead - The Final Nightmare
They tried to burn him, bury him, wash him away with holy water. Freddy hitches a ride inside some poor soul's dream to the nearest town and hey, quicker than you can say "Nine, ten, never sleep again", the dreamstalker's back in business...

A Nightmare On Elm Street 7: Wes Craven's New Nightmare
In a frightening new twist in the terror on Elm street, Wes Craven (director of the original film) finds that his dreams have begun to dictate real-life horrors for the stars of the film.

Sci-fi action trilogy. In the original 1987 film 'Predator', Major Alan 'Dutch' Schaefer (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and a band of mercenaries head into the Central American jungle to rescue some Americans from guerillas. However, there is an additional evil force at work in the jungle, something not human. The mercenaries are picked off one by one and soon Schaefer must face the alien predator alone. In the 1990 follow-up, 'Predator 2', crime-riddled futuristic Los Angeles becomes the target of an alien predator, killing drug lords and police alike. A maverick cop (Danny Glover) and a federal agent (Gary Busey) set out to capture the creature. Adrien Brody and Lawrence Fishburne star in the much later third film, 'Predators' (2010). Produced by Robert Rodriguez, the film follows contract killer Royce (Brody) as he is abducted by alien creatures and released along with seven other professional killers onto a strange and hostile planet. Battling for survival, the group comes across Noland (Fishburne), an American commando who has managed to survive on the planet for several years by hiding out in a cave, and discover to their horror that they have been brought there as prey for a new and merciless race of vicious human-eating alien predators.

Stephen Hopkins directs this biographical drama chronicling the rise of African American athlete Jesse Owens (Stephan James) from promising hopeful to Olympic champion at the 1936 Berlin games. After becoming the first man from his family to go to college, Owens overcomes a number of challenges and breaks down racial barriers to become one of his country's best hopes for a medal at the upcoming Olympic games. With the event held in Nazi Germany, doubts still surround American participation, with Owens himself struggling with the moral dilemma. When the president of the International Olympic Committee Avery Brundage (Jeremy Irons) confirms that the United States team will compete, the stage is set for Owens to go head-to-head with the Nazi's vision of Aryan supremacy and shock the world with his record-breaking performances. The cast also includes Jason Sudeikis, Carice van Houten and William Hurt.

This ground-breaking book provides the first comprehensive investigation of the history and memory of the Northern Ireland Troubles in Britain. It examines the impacts of the conflict upon individual lives, political and social relationships, communities and culture in Britain, and explores how the people of Britain (including its Irish communities) have responded to, and engaged with the conflict, in the context of contested political narratives produced by the State and its opponents. Setting an agenda for further research and public debate, the book demonstrates that 'unfinished business' from the conflicted past persists unaddressed in Britain, and advocates the importance of acknowledging legacies, understanding histories and engaging with memories in the context of peace-building and reconciliation. -- .

Liverpool Football Club, in stark contrast to its competitors, remains locally owned, not a conglomerate or media business. Unlike its main rivals, the Liverpool club has been loathe to pursue global markets for merchandizing - though it attracts a huge fandom around the world - and its ambitions remain resolutely fixed on footballing success. No football club has ever had such an extended period of dominance in the English game, nor extended that dominance to Europe so effectively.
Many of the current crop of top young players are locally born and are a central feature of the city's nightlife, as well as national icons in pop/football/youth culture. But there are fears that the Club's great days have now passed. At the height of its powers in the 1980s, Liverpool FC was the site of two catastrophic crowd disasters, which effectively transformed the sport and added to wounding perceptions about the city's alleged sentimentality, fatalism and irreversible decline. The legacy of the Heysel and Hillsborough tragedies continues to shape the self-image of the Club and those who support it. A seething rivalry with nearby corporate giant Manchester United is a constant reminder of football's new order.
Addressing all of these concerns, as well as Liverpool's global reputation as the home of the Beatles and the 'Mersey sound', this book takes an original approach to the study of football by examining its links with other important popular culture forms, especially pop music, but also television and youth styles. In particular, however, it looks at the very special meaning of football in Liverpool.

The Politics of Memoir and the Northern Ireland Conflict (Hardcover): Stephen Hopkins The Politics of Memoir and the Northern Ireland Conflict (Hardcover)
Stephen Hopkins
R1,696 Discovery Miles 16 960 Special order

This book examines memoir-writing by many of the key political actors in the Northern Irish `Troubles' (1969-1998), and argues that memoir has been a neglected dimension of the study of the legacies of the violent conflict. It investigates these sources in the context of ongoing disputes over how to interpret Northern Ireland's recent past. A careful reading of these memoirs can provide insights into the lived experience and retrospective judgments of some of the main protagonists of the conflict. The period of relative peace rests upon an uneasy calm in Northern Ireland. Many people continue to inhabit contested ideological territories, and in their strategies for shaping the narrative `telling' of the conflict, key individuals within the Protestant Unionist and Catholic Irish Nationalist communities can appear locked into exclusive and self-justifying discourses. In such circumstances, while some memoirists have been genuinely self-critical, many others have utilised a post-conflict language of societal reconciliation in order to mask a strategy that actually seeks to score rhetorical victories and to discomfort traditional enemies. Memoir-writing is only one dimension of the current ad hoc approach to `dealing with the past' in Northern Ireland, but in the absence of any consensus regarding an overarching `truth and reconciliation' process, this is likely to be the pattern for the foreseeable future. This study provides the first comprehensive analysis of a major resource for understanding the conflict.
