Dustin Hoffman and Jon Voight star in John Schlesinger's
Oscar-winning drama based on the novel by James Leo Herlihy. Texan
dishwasher Joe Buck (Voight) dreams of making it big in New York.
Convinced that he can make his fortune providing sexual favours for
wealthy women, he makes the move to the Big Apple. Unfortunately,
the first woman he beds down with, Cass (Sylvia Miles), doesn't
have any money to speak of, and borrows some of his. At this point,
sleazy street-hustler Enrico 'Ratso' Rizzo (Hoffman) enters the
frame, offering to become Joe's 'manager'. The only engagement he
can arrange is with a gay Christian (John McGiver), but Joe and
Ratso soon become close friends, fantasizsng to each other about
the millions they are going to make. The film won Oscars for Best
Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay, while both
Hoffman and Voight were nominated for Best Actor.
Winner of the Academy Award'" for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Screenplay, Midnight Cowboy also boasts Oscar* nominated performances by Dustin Hoffman, Jon Voight and Sylvia Miles. Dustin Hoffman gives an unforgettable performance as Ratso Rizzo, a scrounging, sleazy small-time con man with big dreams. Jon Voight is magnificent as Joe Buck, the good-looking, naively charming Texan 'cowboy' who is convinced that he is the salvation of many lonely, love starved New York women. These two characters are drawn together in this powerful and compassionate film.
Collection of three films adapted from Agatha Christie's novels
following the Belgian sleuth. In 'Murder On the Orient Express'
(1974), while heading into heavy weather, the Orient Express gets
stuck in the snow and overnight one of the passengers - the
millionaire Ratchett (Richard Widmark) - is repeatedly stabbed to
death. Who did it? Luckily the famous detective Hercule Poirot
(Albert Finney) is on hand to find out. The cast also includes
Lauren Bacall, Ingrid Bergman, Sean Connery and Vanessa Redgrave.
In 'Death On the Nile' (1978) a rich heiress is murdered aboard a
steamship travelling down the Nile. Poirot (Peter Ustinov)
discovers that almost all the passengers had a reason to kill her
but will he be able to locate the true culprit before the ship
reaches port? The film also stars Bette Davis, Maggie Smith, Angela
Lansbury and David Niven. Finally, in 'Evil Under the Sun' (1982),
when beautiful socialite Arlena Marshall (Diana Rigg) is found
strangled on a Mediterranean island, there is no shortage of
suspects for Poirot (Ustinov) to eliminate from his enquiries.
