This book provides a multidisciplinary analysis of the links
between migration and remittances. The role of remittances in
influencing migration decision is explored in relation to economic
development, education, the labour market, and social factors. The
impact of remittances on migration is examined from a global
perspective, with a focus on both specific countries and larger
regions, such as the European Union and the former Soviet states.
The challenges in managing migration flows are also discussed,
alongside the impact of COVID-19 on migration, and policy
suggestions are made for the efficient management of labour
migration. This book aims to offer a comparative analysis of the
impact of remittances resulting from labour migration and foreign
direct investment on the economic growth. It will be relevant to
researchers and policymakers interested in labour and migration
economics.
As the re-emergence of nuclear power as an acceptable energy source
on an international basis continues, the need for safe and reliable
ways to dispose of radioactive waste becomes ever more critical.
The ultimate goal for designing a predisposal waste-management
system depends on producing waste containers suitable for storage,
transportation and permanent disposal. "Cement-Based Materials for
Nuclear-Waste Storage "provides a roadmap for the use of
cementation as an applied technique for the treatment of low- and
intermediate-level radioactive wastes. Coverage includes, but is
not limited to, a comparison of cementation with other
solidification techniques, advantages of calcium-silicate cements
over other materials and a discussion of the long-term suitability
and safety of waste packages as well as cement barriers.
This book is dedicated to gas-phase thermal reactions which take
place in engines, burners, and industrial reactors for the
production of mechanical or thermal energy, for the incineration of
pollutants, or for the manufacture of chemicals. It also studies
their effect on the environment: fires, explosions, tropospheric
pollution, the greenhouse effect, and holes in the ozone layer.
After a short reminder of the concepts and laws of thermodynamics,
and of chemical and physical kinetics, the book suggests a
methodology for the kinetic modelling of these reactions:
generation and reduction of reaction mechanisms, estimation of
kinetic data of elementary reactions, estimation of the
thermodynamic data and transport data of molecules and free
radicals, and analysis and validation of mechanisms by comparison
of calculated results with the experimental results obtained using
laboratory reactors. The models thus generated carry all the
information necessary to allow them to be incorporated into
computer programs for the calculation of reactors or of the fluid
dynamics of reacting gases. Tables of numerical data and a list of
computer programs and URLs complete the book.
This edited volume discusses digital democracy at the local level
in Europe. Contrasting the political discourse surrounding
participatory digital democracy with actual experiences of
implementation, the book provides a wholistic view of digital
democracy across Western, Central, and Eastern Europe. The book is
divided into three parts. Chapters in Part I analyze discourses
about participatory democracy in Europe. Chapters in Part II
provide case studies of digital democracy practices at the local
level in the EU. Chapters in Part III discuss the risks and
challenges associated with digital democracy. Written by a panel of
international, interdisciplinary experts, this volume will be of
interest to researchers, students, and practitioners across public
administration, political science, economics, management, and
sociology.

In order to validate predictive models of the very long-term
processes which affect the performance of radioactive waste
repositories, there has been an increased interest in the
information and understanding which can be obtained from studying
similar mechanisms in natural systems. These "natural analogues,"
as they are known in the jargon of waste management, have been
studied sporadically for many years, but there has been a
considerable rejuvenation of interest in the last four years,
possibly owing to the fact that performance assessment methodolo gy
is gradually maturing to the point where it needs the kind of
support which analogues can offer. Since 1982, the Commission of
the European Communities has been involved in specific work on
natural analogues in the framework of its activities on radioactive
waste management, principally within the MIRAGE project which
concerns migration of radionuclides in the geosphere. As a
consequence, the Commission took the initiative, in 1985, of
establish ing a Natural Analogue Working Group (NAWG) whose members
can benefit from the overall expertise available for managing their
own natural analogue research programmes. In this group, modeller'
s requirements and the results of field research are exchanged at
regular intervals. A number of wide-ranging investigation
programmes, both on national and international scales. are
currently underway or being initiated, and several of these have
been discussed recently at the NAWG."
Inelastic neutron scattering is a well established and important
technique for studying the dynamical properties of condensed matter
at the atomic level. Often, as is the case of experiments designed
to study motions of hydrogen atoms, or magnetic excitations, it may
yield information obtainable in no other way. Our aim in assembling
this book is to produce an overview of some research topics which
have come to the fore recently with the development of high neutron
fluxes and high performance inelastic scattering spectrometers. The
topics dis cussed here are, by and large, developing rapidly and
have not reached the stage at which definitive accounts are always
possible. Authors have not therefore attempted to make an extensive
review of their topic, and the papers quoted in the text are, in
general, those which are seen as having been important in its
develop ment (they date, roughly, from the 1971 IAEA conference on
neutron scattering held in Grenoble). Basic phenomena are
illustrated for the most part by the discussion of one, or two,
typical examples. The authors hope that the book will be useful to
researchers who are not yet fully aware of the diverse range of
problems to which the technique can be applied, and to students
beginning research work. For this reason, the first chapter by S.

This book is devoted to Gas-Phase Thermal Reactions (GPTRs), and
especially combustion reactions, which take place in engines,
burners and industrial chemical reactors to produce mechanical or
thermal energy to incinerate pollutants or to manufacture chemical
substances, and which play an important part due to the
consequences they have on the environment : fires and explosions,
tropospheric pollution, greenhouse effect, hole in the
stratospheric ozone layer. The design and running of engines,
burners, incinerators, industrial reactors, both economical in
fuels, raw materials and energy, efficient, safe and clean, as weIl
as the scientific evaluation of the causes and the effects of
atmospheric pollutions with a view to taking rational environmental
decisions, which necessitate an understanding of the fundamental
mechanisms of these reactions and an access to models allowing
numerical simulations of the phenomena being studied to be carried
out. The analysis of the results ofthe simulations then allows an
optimal solution to be found to the industrial problem or to
extrapolate the natural phenomena.
At times, we all find ourselves in seasons of waiting—for our dreams to
be fulfilled, our prayers to be answered, or our circumstances to
change. But your dream has an appointed time and God always has victory
in store for you. And the seasons of waiting don't need to be periods
of discouragement or hopelessness. Instead, they can be rich periods of
joy, growth and preparation for the plans and promotion that God has in
store for you.
In It's On the Way, Lisa Osteen Comes reminds readers that during these
inevitable times in our lives, God is faithful and our current season
is temporary. Lisa teaches readers how to press through challenges,
quit taking shortcuts instead of trusting God to give you His best,
allow God to fight your battles, and silence the enemy within, while
giving encouragement and practical steps to take when you don’t know
what to do next.
