Cyber-professionals recognize that some defensive measures could exacerbate cyber-defense challenges by motivating attackers to adapt—unintentionally inspiring attackers to develop more potent and resilient capabilities. Further study in this area is required to ensure defense and security practices are up to date. Adaptive Security and Cyber Assurance for Risk-Based Decision Making explores decision making in the context of software-based systems and discusses why it is difficult to achieve. It also identifies a discipline termed cyber-assurance, which considers the interactions of assurance-enhancing technology, system architecture, and the development life cycle. Covering key topics such as cyber assurance, security, and defensive operations, this premier reference source is ideal for industry professionals, computer scientists, academicians, engineers, researchers, scholars, practitioners, librarians, instructors, and students.
The goal of this book is to introduce a reader to a new philosophy of teaching and learning physics - Investigative Science Learning Environment, or ISLE (pronounced as a small island). ISLE is an example of an "intentional" approach to curriculum design and learning activities (MacMillan and Garrison 1988 A Logical Theory of Teaching: Erotetics and Intentionality). Intentionality means that the process through which the learning occurs is as crucial for learning as the final outcome or learned content. In ISLE, the process through which students learn mirrors the practice of physics.
In modern employment practice, the question of who falls under the jurisdiction of German labor law (employees, freelancers, employers, works councils, labor unions, representatives for the disabled, employer's associations, etc.) is an increasingly salient issue faced by foreign firms and firm owners, human resource, tax, and legal departments, as well as investors and foreign employees. Specifically, many firms have questions concerning the application of German law for establishing, managing, and terminating employment contracts with foreign or German workers within Germany. In this connection, issues frequently arise concerning foreign assignment, residency, and visa law, and an extremely wide range of legal provisions must be taken into account, including the AGG (General Non-Discrimination Act), BetrVG (German Employees Representation Act), Tarifrecht (Collective Bargaining Law), BUrlG (German Federal Leave Act), TzBfG (Part-Time Work and Fixed-Term Employment Act), AUEG (Employee Transfer Act), BDSG (German Federal Data Protection Act), KSchG (German Protection Against Dismissal Act), EntgeltfortzahlungsG (Continued Remuneration Act), GewO (German Industrial Code), and MutterschutzG (Maternity Protection Act). Beyond this, secondary questions related to income tax law, international taxation, and social security law may arise. Against this complex backdrop, the present work intends to answer questions most frequently asked by foreigners when dealing with German employment law.
Creating and managing effective teams directly impacts an organization's ability to achieve its goals. But more importantly, building and managing a team requires skills to nurture individual talents and harmonize those talents into a cohesive whole. Drawing on his extensive military background in logistics, training, and as Drill Sergeant of the Year, author Kenric Brooks extends the army's team-building model to civilian applications. He lays out the stages of building an effective and productive team, including the critical elements of building trust, establishing lines of communication, and creating value. He also draws upon biblical wisdom, which provides an abundance of relevant guidance. Brooks also introduces his "Productivity and Resource Model," a new concept that describes information flow and how it affects a team's productivity. Through detailed examples you will understand the importance of establishing a strong foundation and how to fortify that foundation to build a team that will strive toward progress. Teams are born from an idea, during a time of need, or from the desire for profit. The relationships, inspiration, and innovations that teams create can move companies and organizations toward profound progress. Building the Team will help you to develop yourself, your managers, and your teams to meet every challenge with confidence.
The increasing internationalization of business leads to a cornucopia of differing cross-border exchanges in one's daily work. Participants and other beneficiaries of this internationalization include not only multi-national companies but also SMEs (small and mid-sized enterprises), for which the increased global market access offers substantial opportunities. With the growth of internationalization, too, comes an increase in employee assignments. In business practice, the number of questions from foreign companies, management, HR, tax and legal professionals, investors and non German employees etc., ist growing. In order to be certain that sending employees to or from Germany on work assignments can take place as smoothly and efficiently as possible, relevant questions asked by companies and workers need to be taken into consideration. This text does just that with a focus on answering common expat-relevant questions posed by professionals. It is a reference work for those foreigners subject to and applying German law.

"Faust" calls itself "A Tragedy" right enough, but it might just as well be described as a musical comedy -- it's ripe with comic passages, features many songs, and lacks a tragic ending. And Faust isn't a classic tragic figure, either. In fact, his characteristic yearning for experience and knowledge created a type for the romantic age still known as the Faustian hero. The villain of the piece -- Mephistopheles -- is one of the most likeable characters in the play. His yearnings draw him toward the heavens, yet he is also powerfully attracted to the physical world.
Our willingness and faithfulness to pray for others is the hallmark of an effective prayer life. Sometimes our prayers are hindered because we focus only on our needs or requests. But the church has been commissioned to make disciples of all nations, and it is the responsibility of each member to pray for others in our world. Well-organized and inspirational, The Prayer Manifesto for the Globally Conscious explores the importance of having a heart to pray for God's people across the world by denying ourselves and taking up our cross to follow God. Author Lischa T. Brooks uses scriptural examples and humorous, personal stories to illustrate how to develop an effective personal prayer life and focus on our responsibility to pray for others. In addition to finding a deeper purpose and understanding of prayer principles, you can learn how to: -begin your prayer with worship;-conduct an examination of your attitudes and actions;-pray with the Word of God;-take time to listen to the Father;-establish prayer partners; and-connect with a local church body. Establishing a life of prayer requires more than just passion and desire; it involves a commitment to applying the principles outlined in the Word of God every day. Develop a rich prayer life committed to God with The Prayer Manifesto for the Globally Conscious.

The story of how and why some women choose to use, while others refuse, cosmetic intervention. What is it like to be a woman growing older in a culture where you cannot go to the doctor, open a magazine, watch television, or surf the internet without encountering products and procedures that are designed to make you look younger? What do women have to say about their decision to embrace cosmetic anti-aging procedures? And, alternatively, how do women come to decide to grow older without them? In the United States today, women are the overwhelming consumers of cosmetic anti-aging surgeries and technologies. And while not all women undergo these procedures, their exposure to them is almost inevitable. Set against the backdrop of commercialized medicine in the United States, Abigail T. Brooks investigates the anti-aging craze from the perspective of women themselves, examining the rapidly changing cultural attitudes, pressures, and expectations of female aging. Drawn from in-depth interviews with women in the United States who choose, and refuse, to have cosmetic anti-aging procedures, The Ways Women Age provides a fresh understanding of how today's women feel about aging. The women's stories in this book are personal biographies that explore identity and body image and are reflexively shaped by beauty standards, expectations of femininity, and an increasingly normalized climate of cosmetic anti-aging intervention. The Ways Women Age offers a critical perspective on how women respond to 21st century expectations of youth and beauty.
