Emily Carroll has achieved what I thought impossible: creating a comic book that actually leaves you actually doubting the shadows and noises in the night.
The five stories contained here vary in eeriness, artistic approach, and story type. From fables to short stories, each tale leaves you feeling a little more uncomfortable in your own skin than the moment before you read them.
Where Carroll succeeds most magnificently is in keeping the "reveal" hidden until you turn the page, retaining the frightening element that so many comic books lose due to panel placement, making the design and layout of this book such an important part of each story.
This is worth the hype. Prepare to keep the light on.
