Excellent Little Shredder
Thu, 31 Oct 2019 | Review
by: Ken M.
Overall, a good buy, does the job well. Best advice: treat it for what it is, a personal shredder designed for occasional use. Not that it cannot be used to do hundreds of pages, just that there are limitations on number of pages per pass and on time before over-heating. The spec sheet says 30 sheets per day recommended use – by this standard I have abused my one as I have done hundreds of sheets a day (not continuously) for days clearing out years of old documents. I did often give it a dose of oil onto the blades (liquid, not aerosol, as stated in the handbook).
Pluses: compact, neat-looking, strong, well-built quality unit, easily cleaned; good luck to whoever tries to read what you’ve just shredded, it sure produces confetti; has safety features (lock-switch and lock-out to prevent you shredding your fingers if cleaning out the blades; has a heat-protection circuit which shuts off the unit and switches the green light to red. Confession: I tried it out just once to find out how gutsy the unit is – continuously fed it paper until it protested.
Minuses: small paper bin which fills quite quickly. If you are lazy and don’t empty soon enough the paper shreds rise and start jamming up the blades from below – you will hear the unit start to struggle. Regular bin emptying also means no mess landing on the floor. Lastly, the claim is 6 pages of 70g paper. I found in practice, if shredding for long periods, 2 pages per pass is fast through the blades and does not lead to heating up. Our paper is generally 100gram and 6 sheets is not on. It did make short shrift of one old credit card I fed it.
Overall: An excellent little machine which has proven itself. Would I it buy again? Most definitely yes. I have finished my clearing and the little Fellow can now revert to the lazy life doing 30 pages or less a day.
