Pray You, Sir, Whose Daughter? is a novella written by early
feminist and suffragist, Helen H Gardener. It was published in the
early 1890s and deals with the double standard of morality between
the sexes. The story is critical of the low age of consent at the
time and the lustful desires of outwardly respectable men. It sold
over 25,000 copies in its first 5 months of publication and was a
cause of controversy. It includes a forward by fellow suffragist,
Elizabeth Cady Stanton.
