Urban Environment and Geoinformatics is a collection of papers
which deal with India's urban issues at varying levels of scale.
The contributions span topics as diverse as urban challenges in the
21st century, the impact of the development of towns on Indian
tribal communities, the urban scenario as manifest in the emergence
of high-rise buildings or gated communities, and more.
Geoinformatic techniques like Geographic Information Systems and
remote sensing have been applied in the study of land use and land
cover, change detection, urban water resources, and demarcating
rainwater harvesting sites. The book examines the impact of
geo-environmental factors on the development of a port city, the
creation of healthy urban colonies, the status of underground
water, and the concerns of air pollution. Studies of industrial
activism and municipal solid waste landfills are also unique cases
of focus.
