Early settlers in Imperial Valley wet their beds to stay cool on
hot summer nights. They lived in tents, made homemade filters for
their water and rode miles to see their neighbor. It was worth it
because the land was fertile and the newly built irrigation system
provided all they needed for bountiful crops.
And then the flood came.
