Stevenson's preoccupation with 'that strong sense of man's double
being' comes to the fore in the other stories included in this
gripping selection. 'The Body Snatcher' and 'Markheim' both have
protagonists for whom there is no clear borderline between decency
and wickedness, innocence and guilt. Other kinds of dualism ruin
through tales written in the Scots dialect.
