Above-average psychological thriller, with Robin Williams in a straight role as Gabriel Noone – a popular gay radio show host and writer.
There have been lots of movies in which a child mysteriously disappears as though he or she had never existed. In this one, we have things the other way round: where Gabriel is given a tragic autobiography to read, allegedly penned by a molested teenager Peter Logand (Rory Coulkin). However, Gabriel suspects that Peter doesn’t really exist, and that he, himself is being set up for a scam!
Told by his long-term partner Jess (Bobby Cannavale) that his life is deteriorating into the stories he’s been writing up to now: Gabriel begins an investigation on “Peter.”
That’s what the bulk of the story is all about – and don’t overlook the fact that every story must have an ending!
Williams lends the necessary sympathy to a part that might otherwise have gone to the likes of, say, Gene Hackman. Worth seeing!
Dramatic thriller based on real events, adapted from the book by
Armistead Maupin. Robin Williams stars as Gabriel Noone, a radio
talk show host who has developed a loyal following for his deeply
personal on-air monologues, many of which are related to his
relationship with his HIV-positive partner Jess (Bobby Cannavale).
However, when Jess starts to recover, he rocks Gabriel's world by
announcing that he is leaving him. In the midst of his crumbling
personal life, Gabriel becomes embroiled in the life and story of
an HIV-positive 14-year-old boy, Pete (Rory Culkin) who phones into
his show. But when questions about the boy's identity come up,
Gabriel's life descends further into chaos.
