REVIEWS IN COMPUTATIONAL CHEMISTRY THE LATEST VOLUME IN THE REVIEWS IN COMPUTATIONAL CHEMISTRY SERIES, THE INVALUABLE REFERENCE TO METHODS AND TECHNIQUES IN COMPUTATIONAL CHEMISTRY Reviews in Computational Chemistry reference texts assist researchers in selecting and applying new computational chemistry methods to their own research. Bringing together writings from leading experts in various fields of computational chemistry, Volume 32 covers topics including global structure optimization, time-dependent density functional tight binding calculations, non-equilibrium self-assembly, cluster prediction, and molecular simulations of microphase formers and deep eutectic solvents. In keeping with previous books in the series, Volume 32 uses a non-mathematical style and tutorial-based approach that provides students and researchers with easy access to computational methods outside their area of expertise. The chapters comprising Volume 32 are connected by two themes: methods that can be broadly applied to a variety of systems, and special considerations required when modeling specific system types. Each in-depth chapter contains background and theory, strategies for using the methods correctly, mini-tutorials and best practices, and critical literature reviews highlighting advanced applications. Essential reading for both newcomers and experts in the area of molecular modeling, this state-of-the-art resource: Covers topics such as non-deterministic global optimization (NDGO) approaches and excited-state dynamics calculations Contains a detailed overview of deep eutectic solvents (DESs) and simulation methods Presents methodologies for investigating chemical systems that form microphases with periodic morphologies such as lamellae and cylinders Features step-by-step tutorials on applying techniques to probe and understand the chemical dynamics exhibited in a system Includes detailed subject indices on each volume in the series and up-to-date compendiums of molecular modeling software, services, programs, suppliers, and other useful information Reviews in Computational Chemistry, Volume 32 is a must-have guide for computational chemists, theoretical chemists, pharmaceutical chemists, biological chemists, chemical engineers, researchers in academia and industry, and graduate students involved in molecular modeling.

Ridley Scott - A Critical Filmography (Paperback, New): William B. Parrill Ridley Scott - A Critical Filmography (Paperback, New)

Ridley Scott, the director of such seminal films as Blade Runner, Alien and Thelma & Louise, is one of the most important directors of the last fifty years. Unlike many directors, Scott has been remarkably transparent about his craft, offering the audience glimpses into his creative process. This book explores Scott's oeuvre in depth, devoting a chapter to his 22 primary works, from his first effort, Boy and Bicycle (1962), through Robin Hood (2010). Topics discussed include the critical reception of the films, and the ways in which Scott's works function as cinematic mediators on issues such as religion, women's rights and history.

Jane Austen on Film and Television - A Critical Study of the Adaptations (Paperback): Sue Parrill Jane Austen on Film and Television - A Critical Study of the Adaptations (Paperback)

Jane Austen's career as a novelist began in 1811 with the publication of ""Sense and Sensibility"". Her work was finally adapted for the big screen with the 1940 filming of ""Pride and Prejudice"" which was very successful at the box office. No other film adaptation of an Austen novel was made for theatrical release until 1995. Amazingly, during 1995 and 1996, six film and television adaptations appeared: firstly ""Clueless"", then ""Persuasion"", followed by ""Pride and Prejudice"", ""Sense and Sensibility"", the Miramax ""Emma"", and the Meridian/A&E ""Emma"". This book traces the history of film and television adaptations of Jane Austen manuscripts, compares the adaptations to the manuscripts, compares the way different adaptations treat the novels, and analyzes the adaptations as examples of cinematic art. The first of seven chapters explains why the novels of Jane Austen have become a popular source of film and television adaptations. The following six chapters each cover one of Austen's novels: ""Sense and Sensibility"", ""Pride and Prejudice"", ""Emma"", ""Mansfield Park"", ""Persuasion"" and ""Northanger Abbey"". Each chapter begins with a summary of the main events of the novel. Then a history of the adaptations is presented followed by an analysis of the unique qualities of each adaptation, a comparison of these adaptations to each other and to the novels on which they are based, and a reflection of relevant film and literary criticism as it applies to the adaptations.

European Silent Films on Video - A Critical Guide (Paperback): William B. Parrill European Silent Films on Video - A Critical Guide (Paperback)
William B. Parrill
R1,712 Discovery Miles 17 120 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book is a critical encyclopedia of silent European films currently available on DVD, laser disc, and VHS. It provides concise and accurate summaries of the films, evaluates the quality of the prints, indicates the changing reputations of both films and filmmakers, evaluates individual films, and demonstrates how the techniques developed during the silent period continue to influence films today.

A. L. Parrill
R7,589 Discovery Miles 75 890 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The Reviews in Computational Chemistry series brings together leading authorities in the field to teach the newcomer and update the expert on topics centered on molecular modeling, such as computer-assisted molecular design (CAMD), quantum chemistry, molecular mechanics and dynamics, and quantitative structure-activity relationships (QSAR). This volume, like those prior to it, features chapters by experts in various fields of computational chemistry. Topics in Volume 31 include: Lattice-Boltzmann Modeling of Multicomponent Systems: An Introduction Modeling Mechanochemistry from First Principles Mapping Energy Transport Networks in Proteins The Role of Computations in Catalysis The Construction of Ab Initio Based Potential Energy Surfaces Uncertainty Quantification for Molecular Dynamics

R1,642 Discovery Miles 16 420 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book provides summaries and analyses of more than 250 novels and nearly 30 films and examines the extent to which they accurately reflect the history, mores and manners of the period--and the extent to which they reveal the ideas and attitudes of their authors and of the periods in which they were written. Particular emphasis is placed on the nature and importance of the war at sea for the British and on the role of famous naval officers such as Nelson, Pellew, Duncan, Smith and Cochrane in the defeat of Napoleon.
