A double-bill of films by director Terrence Malick.

In 'The Tree of Life' (2011) Jack (Hunter McCracken) is one of three brothers brought up in the 1950s by his spiritually-minded mother (Jessica Chastain) and pragmatic, no-nonsense father (Brad Pitt). After witnessing a disturbing event that shakes his world to the core, the young Jack struggles to reconcile the differing world views of his parents. Later, as a jaded middle-aged man with a failed marriage behind him, Jack (Sean Penn) retraces his emotional journey from the hope and innocence of childhood to his disillusioned adult years in a quest to rediscover meaning in his life.

Set in 1942, 'The Thin Red Line' (1998) follows US soldiers as they land on the Pacific island of Guadalcanal, hoping to capture it from the Japanese. When the job of venturing into the jungle falls to 'C for Charlie' company, the troops are faced by both the enemy and struggles within their own camp. As the carnage and destruction rains down around them, the conflict exacts a heavy toll upon the young soldiers, leading them on a path of disillusion and possibly death.

Gustave, a legendary concierge at a famous European hotel between the wars, and Zero Moustafa, the lobby boy who becomes his most trusted friend. The story involves the theft and recovery of a priceless Renaissance painting and the battle for an enormous family fortune—all against the back-drop of a suddenly and dramatically changing continent. The Sessions (2012)
A drama about the sexual awakening of a life-long polio sufferer. John Hawkes stars as Mark O'Brien, a writer in his late thirties who has spent most of his life lying horizontal in an iron lung since a debilitating childhood bout of polio left him paralysed. A poet and a romantic, Mark has lived a life devoid of sexual intimacy. When he is given the job of writing an article about the sex lives of the disabled, he arranges - with the support of his local priest, Father Brendan (William H. Macy) - to employ the services of sexual surrogate Cheryl (Helen Hunt). Their 'sessions' take Mark on an unexpected journey of discovery and self-awareness.

Hitchcock (2012)
Anthony Hopkins stars as the legendary director in this biopic that chronicles the personal and professional relationship between Hitchcock and his wife Alma Reville (Helen Mirren) during the making of his 1960 classic 'Psycho'. It's 1959 and, increasingly worried about his relevance, Hitchcock decides a change of direction is what is needed. He settles on adapting Robert Bloch's true crime novel 'Psycho', despite the protestations of both Alma and Paramount President Barney Balaban (Richard Portnow). Having to mortgage their house to pay for the film, Alma's initial opposition soon gives way to support, as she dutifully throws herself fully behind the project. But as her husband begins to indulge himself in his trademark flights of fancy with a variety of blonde stars, Alma, whilst trying to keep the marriage on the rails, is determined that her own needs take centre stage.

Collection of six films starring Harrison Ford. '42' (2013) is a biographical drama about African-American baseball player Jackie Robinson, here portrayed by Chadwick Boseman. In 1945, having been spotted by a scout, Robinson is signed by Brooklyn Dodgers general manager Branch Rickey (Ford) and becomes the first black man to play in the Major League. Despite his talent, Robinson is met with opposition, even from his fellow players, because of his race. As he tries to keep his own frustrations in check, he excels in his sport and gradually receives the recognition he deserves. 'Blade Runner' (1982), Ridley Scott's cult classic, is set in a neon noir version of 21st Century Los Angeles. Ex-cop Rick Deckard (Ford) is hired to track down a group of androids who have escaped from a satellite colony. As two of the AWOL 'replicants' (Rutger Hauer and Daryl Hannah) seek refuge in a geneticist's house, Deckard takes his investigation to the Tyrell Corporation, where he falls in love with Rachael (Sean Young), herself an android, but with a memory chip that convinces her she is human. In 'Firewall' (2006) Ford stars as Jack Stanfield, an average family man in Seattle who heads up the hi-tech security team at his local bank. But following a seemingly trivial case of identity theft, Jack's life is turned upside down when his wife (Virginia Madsen) and two children are kidnapped. The ransom is $100 million which the kidnappers, led by Bill Cox (Paul Bettany), want Jack to obtain for them via his expert computer skills. Initially compliant, Jack is soon irked by Cox and his cronies to the point where he decides to risk everything to get his family back and bring the bad guys to justice. In 'Frantic' (1988) American doctor Richard Walker (Ford) checks into a Paris hotel with his wife Sondra (Betty Buckley) to attend a conference and celebrate their wedding anniversary. However, shortly after arriving at the hotel Sondra disappears and soon Richard is plunged into a nightmare kidnap scenario, roaming the streets of Paris trying to find a lead in the search for his missing wife. His only clue comes in the form of drugged-up young punk Michelle (Emmanuelle Seigner). In 'Presumed Innocent' (1990) Ford plays Rusty Sabich, an attorney who finds himself charged with murder. The victim (Greta Scacchi) was a colleague of his with whom he had a brief but intense affair and Rusty finds himself in need of a defence lawyer. In 'The Fugitive' (1993), based on the 1960s American television series, eminent Chicago surgeon Dr Richard Kimble (Ford), married to wealthy heiress Helen (Sela Ward), arrives home one night to find his wife murdered and a one-armed man in his house. Due to incriminating evidence and prime motivation, Kimble is wrongly convicted for murder. However, on his way to death row he is involved in a spectacular train crash that precipitates his escape. Kimble then strives to prove his innocence whilst staying one step ahead of the dogged US Marshal Sam Gerard (Tommy Lee Jones).

Stephen Frears' critically acclaimed portrait of the English Monarch in time of strife. One of the most turbulent times in British politics in recent memory seen from an insider's perspective - an almost documentary look at the relationship between the figurehead and the brains behind the UK. It's 1997 and Tony Blair's Labour Government has just won an election, ending 18 years of Conservative rule. Blair the firebrand (Michael Sheen) must introduce himself to the Queen (Helen Mirren) and ask permission to govern the country. The stone-faced Regina, in accepting, gives him not a millimeter of slack, silently underscoring the fact she's in charge. Shortly thereafter, the former Princess of Wales, wife of Elizabeth's son and heir, is killed in Paris. The Queen's initial reaction is to hold ranks and treat Diana as an outsider, being that she has left the royal household. Blair senses the coming landslide of public opinion against this course of action and tries, as hard as a new boy can, to make her majesty see sense. The question of who's truly in charge comes to the fore.
