Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not
used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad
quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are
images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to
keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the
original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain
imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made
available for future generations to enjoy.
Since the mid-1990s, increasing international attention has been
paid to the issue of violence against women; however, there is
still no explicit international human rights treaty prohibition on
violence against women and the issue remains poorly defined and
understood under international human rights law. Drawing on
feminist theories of international law and human rights, this
critical examination of the United Nations' legal approaches to
violence against women analyses the merits of strategies which
incorporate women's concerns of violence within existing human
rights norms such as equality norms, the right to life, and the
prohibition against torture. Although feminist strategies of
inclusion have been necessary as well as symbolically powerful for
women, the book argues that they also carry their own problems and
limitations, prevent a more radical transformation of the human
rights system and ultimately reinforce the unequal position of
women under international law.
Written by leading experts, Nationality and Statelessness under
International Law introduces the study and practice of
'international statelessness law' and explains the complex
relationship between the international law on nationality and the
phenomenon of statelessness. It also identifies the rights of
stateless people, outlines the major legal obstacles preventing the
eradication of statelessness and charts a course for this new and
rapidly changing field of study. All royalties from the sale of
this book support stateless projects.
The past decades have seen enormous changes in our perceptions of
'security', the causes of insecurity and the measures adopted to
address them. Threats of terrorism and the impacts of globalisation
and mass migration have shaped our identities, politics and world
views. This volume of essays analyses these shifts in thinking and,
in particular, critically engages with the concept of 'human
security' from legal, international relations and human rights
perspectives. Contributors consider the special circumstances of
non-citizens, such as refugees, migrants, and displaced and
stateless persons, and assess whether, conceptually and
practically, 'human security' helps to address the multiple
challenges they face.

This story was inspired by a real incident in the life of the
author. She and her husband were truck drivers for eighteen years
and hauled trailers with a big, purple truck all over the United
States. One day, they found out they had a mouse in the cab of
their truck when it ran down the author's arm as they drove along.
Of course, she was quite startled and when she calmed down she made
up this story about the incident, trying to imagine the event from
the mouse's point of view. The attached proposal has some rough
sketches of how the book might be illustrated to go along with the
story and an idea at the end for how to use it as a teaching tool.
The story lends itself to educational themes about geography and
commerce for use in the classroom or with home school programs. It
is the first story in a series of nine charming stories that the
author has written about the adventurous little mouse and his
family.

YOUR CHILD CAN READ, WRITE AND DRAW Some children compare their
drawings to books drawn by expert illustrators, think their work is
not "good enough" and don't want to try. This book is deliberately
illustrated with illustrations by children so that it can be used
as an example to your child that their art, while with room to
grow, is still "good." Encourage your child to write and draw. Some
children prefer drawing. Other prefer creating the stories.
Children who help create stories are more engaged in reading. Being
part of the creation of stories can help encourage your child to
read and write more. Publishing your child's work is another great
way to build their self-esteem and can be used as a reward for
achieving goals. Your child can read these stories written and
illustrated by other children and be inspired to start their own
reading and writing adventures.

The impact of violence and conflict on refugee status determination
and international protection is a key developing field. Given the
contemporary dynamics of armed conflict, how to interpret and apply
the refugee definitions at global and regional levels is
increasingly relevant to governmental policy-makers,
decision-makers, legal practitioners, academics and students. This
book will provide a comprehensive analysis of the global and
regional refugee instruments as they apply to claimants in flight
from situations of armed violence and conflict, exploring their
interrelationship and how they are interpreted and applied (or
should be applied). As part of a broader United Nations High
Commissioner for Refugees project to develop guidelines on the
interpretation and application of international refugee law
instruments to claimants fleeing armed conflict and other
situations of violence, it includes contributions from leading
scholars and practitioners in this field as well as emerging
authors with specific expertise.
