Nanotechnology in Water and Waste Water Treatment: Theory and Applications explores the unique physicochemical and surface properties of nanoparticles and highlights the advantages they provide for engineering applications. Applications covered include the generation of fresh water from surface water and seawater, the prevention of the contamination of the environment, and the creation of effective and efficient methods for remediation of polluted waters. Each chapter covers a different nanotechnology-based approach and examines the basic principles, practical applications, recent breakthroughs and associated limitations. This book is ideal for researchers and professionals in the fields of nanotechnology, water treatment and desalination. In addition, it is also ideal for postgraduate students, industry and government professionals, managers and policymakers.
This book introduces advanced water vapour condensation processes, modelling and control technologies in order to find a sustainable solution in an industrialised society. The theoretical analysis and modelling of heat and mass transfer rates produced in a condensation process is a significant issue in a design of wide range of industrial processes and devices. It includes five advanced and revised contributions which cover the laminar film-wise condensation; the condensation at nanoscale; the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds in aqueous medium; the condensation for solar still and the effect of noncondensable gases on condensation.
The theoretical analysis and modeling of nutrients in water catchments and in irrigation water is a significant issue in the design of industrial processes and devices. Besides, the amount of antibiotic resistant fecal coliform bacteria in wastewater treatment plants is important to monitor and control. In addition, the hazardous landfill leachate needs to be treated and handled properly to save the environment and public health. These three ideas are presented in this book. It includes six advanced and revised contributions, and it covers the following points of interest: (1) Nutrients and sediment loads in water catchments with heterogeneous land uses; (2) the effect of nitrogen release from bioplastic fertilizer (BpF) composites and slow release fertilizer control application; (3) prevalence of antibiotic resistant fecal coliform bacteria in wastewater treatment plants; (4) antibiotic resistant coliforms from the human gut to wastewater; (5) landfill leachate treatment by electrolysis and preparation of low cost activated carbon; and (6) treatment of scheduled waste landfill leachate and perspectives for this in Malaysia.
