Bring your company into the digital era without compromising your
core business In The Digital Transformer's Dilemma: How to Energize
Your Core Business While Building Disruptive Products and Services,
the authors show companies how to go digital while also advancing
their core business. The book emphasizes how to strike a difficult
balance between establishing a new (digital) business and
re-vitalizing - and digitizing - the legacy business. The core of
the book is focused on the actual implementation of the digital
transformation across both businesses, providing concrete tips,
tricks, tools and action plans across six key dimensions: Crafting
a flexible organization Using technology as a driver Designing the
necessary processes Building transformational leaders
"Right-skilling" the workforce of the future Galvanizing cultural
change The Digital Transformer's Dilemma is a very visual book,
filled with dozens of engaging illustrations that bring the
contained concepts to life on the page. Based on 100+ interviews
with senior executives at leading companies (such as Nestle,
Novartis, Volkswagen, BNP Paribas, BASF and Michelin) and smaller
hidden champions, numerous illuminating case studies, and the
authors' own experience from working in international management
consulting and years of academic experience, the book highlights
the fundamental principles required for executives and
businesspeople to transform legacy organizations into digitally
empowered companies.
Providing an assessment of Jewish identity, this volume presents
critical engagements with a number of Jewish writers and filmmakers
from a variety of European countries, including Austria, France,
Germany, Poland, and the UK. The novels and films discussed explore
the meaning of being Jewish in Europe today, and investigate the
extent to which this experience is shaped by factors that lie
outside the national context, notably by the relationship to
Israel. As the recent attacks on Charlie Hebdo, and the targeting
of a Jewish supermarket in Paris, demonstrate, these questions are
more pressing than ever, and will challenge Jews, as well as Jewish
writers and intellectuals, as they explore the answers. This book
was originally published as a special issue of Jewish Culture and
History.
This book examines Jewish writers and intellectuals in Austria,
analyzing filmic and electronic media alongside more traditional
publication formats over the last 25 years. Beginning with the
Waldheim affair and the rhetorical response by the three most
prominent members of the survivor generation (Leon Zelman, Simon
Wiesenthal and Bruno Kreisky) author Andrea Reiter sets a
complicated standard for 'who is Jewish' and what constitutes a
'Jewish response.' She reformulates the concepts of religious and
secular Jewish cultural expression, cutting across gender and
Holocaust studies. The work proceeds to questions of enacting or
performing identity, especially Jewish identity in the Austrian
setting, looking at how these Jewish writers and filmmakers in
Austria 'perform' their Jewishness not only in their public
appearances and engagements but also in their works. By engaging
with novels, poems, and films, this volume challenges the dominant
claim that Jewish culture in Central Europe is almost exclusively
borne by non-Jews and consumed by non-Jewish audiences,
establishing a new counter-discourse against resurging
anti-Semitism in the media.
Children of the Holocaust contains the papers delivered at a
conference to mark Holocaust Remembrance Day 2004, which was held
under the auspices of the AHRC Parkes Centre at the University of
Southampton. The book addresses questions of representation of the
Holocaust by and of children, both in text and image. While the
volume opens with a theoretical discussion of how and where to
locate the voice of the child in a text, the majority of
contributions deal with exemplary texts either by single authors or
specific groups of survivors. The testimonies at the heart of these
essays were written in different European languages, mainly in
German, English and Polish. The authors offer a variety of
perspectives, ranging from the literary to the historical and
art-critical. With its wide range of examples and approaches to the
theme, this volume proposes to be more than a concise introduction
to the theme of children of the Holocaust. It documents the breadth
of issues of this branch of Holocaust studies, which is still
largely waiting to be discovered.
Since publication of Thomas More's Utopia more than five hundred
years ago, there has been a steady stream of literary works that
depict a better world; positive utopias in film, however, have been
scarce. There is a consensus that utopias in the Morean tradition
are not suited to fiction film, and research has accordingly
focused on dystopias. Starting from the insight that utopias are
always a critical reaction to the deficits of the present, Utopia
and Reality takes a different approach by looking into the
under-researched area of propaganda and documentary films for
depictions of better worlds. This volume brings together
researchers from two fields that have so far seen little exchange -
documentary studies and utopian scholarship - and covers a wide
range of films from Soviet avant-garde to propaganda videos for the
terror organisation ISIS, from political-activist to ecofeminist
and interactive documentaries.

Thinking Geographically offers students and faculty alike an
elegant, concise, and thorough overview of contemporary theoretical
concerns in geography. Easily accessible to those unfamiliar with
social theory, this volume "pushes the envelope" of understanding
by sketching the contours of post-structuralist spatial thought,
including such critical emerging topics as geographies of text, the
body, money, and globalisation. Brief biographies of influential
theorists demonstrate how ideas are embodied and personified. This
volume is highly useful for courses in human geography, the history
and status of the discipline, and will stand as a milestone in the
discipline's conceptual understanding over the next decade or
more." Barney Warf, Florida State University. The last decade has
seen Geography transformed by an astonishing range of cultural and
philosophical concepts and approaches. Thinking Geographically is
designed for students as an accessible and enjoyable introduction
to this new landscape of geographical ideas. The book takes the
reader through the history of geographic thought up to a survey of
the present. Contemporary theory is then used to explore real world
issues drawn from across the discipline of social, cultural,
political and economic geography. Entertainingly written and packed
with examples and with profiles of key theorists, the book is an
ideal introduction for any student who wants to discover the
potential of thinking geographically.
