Das vorliegende Buch entstand aus einer spontanen Idee zu einem Experiment, uber dessen Konsequenzen sich alle Beteiligten erst im Laufe der weiteren Entwicklung im klaren wurden. Die Idee stammte von einem Professor, der gerade dabei war, seine Vor lesung "Organisation des Produktionsprozesses" auf den Stand zu bringen, dass sie den neuesten Entwicklungen in einem turbulenten industriellen Umfeld gerecht wird. Hierin lag nicht nur eine Verpflichtung, sondern vielmehr eine Leidenschaft, jungen Studieren den der Ingenieurwissenschaft in einer Zeit der Rezession, des Personalabbaus in den Betrieben und einer vermeintlichen Perspektivlosigkeit in bezug auf den zukunftigen Arbeitsmarkt fur Ingenieure Mut und Zuversicht zu vermitteln. Bekannt ist, dass der Lernerfolg von unterschiedlichen Faktoren abhangig ist, wobei die Visualisierung eine grosse Rolle spielt. Der grosste Effekt wird der Selbsterarbeitung zugeschrieben. Daraus entstand die Uberlegung, die studentische Aktivitat nicht auf blosses Mit schreiben der Vorlesung zu beschranken, sondern sie aktiv an der Erstellung eines (Lehr-) Buches auf der Grundlage einer Vorlesung zu beteiligen und sie damit gleich zeitig in eine fur sie neue Erfahrung einzufuhren, die zunehmend wichtiger wird, namlich das Arbeiten in einem Projekt. Der Gedanke fand spontanes Interesse bei einigen Studenten der Fertigungstechnik an der Technischen Universitat Hamburg Harburg, die somit die eigentlichen Autoren dieses Buches darstellen. Es sind: Olaf Rokitta, Detlef Schmidt, Stephan Thiesen und Andreas Warner. Tatsachlich war die Erstellung dieses Buches ein Lernerfolg fur alle Beteiligten."
