Der Verfasser hat die Absicht, m dem vorliegenden Buche dem
Eisenhuttenchemiker in moeglichst kurz gefasster Form die
verschiedenen Methoden der Eisen- und Stahl- u. s. w. Untersuchung,
sowie die dazu noethigen Apparate und Gerathschaften vorzufuhren.
Trotzdem ich mich nach Moeglichkeit bemuht habe, das Original genau
zu ubersetzen, so sah ich mich doch, beson- ders im ersten
Abschnitt, genoethigt, einige Aenderungen vor- zunehmen, da die vom
Verfasser beschriebenen Apparate zum Theil veraltet, zum Theil auch
fur hiesige Verhaltnisse nicht angebracht sind. Auch bei den
Untersuchungsmethoden selbst habe ich mich bestrebt, den
Verhaltnissen auf deutschen Huttenwerken Rechnung zu tragen, und
ausseI' den vom Verfasser ange- fuhrten noch einige andere Methoden
