R3,015 Discovery Miles 30 150 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Genomic Data Sharing: Case Studies, Challenges, and Opportunities for Precision Medicine provides a comprehensive overview of current and emerging issues in genomic data sharing. In this book, international leaders in genomic data examine these issues in-depth, offering practical case studies that highlight key successes, challenges and opportunities. Sections discuss the eMERGE Network, Undiagnosed Disease Network, Vanderbilt Biobank, Marshfield Clinic Biobank, Minnesota Authorization, Rochester Epidemiology Project, NIH sponsored biobanks, GINA, and Global Alliance for Genomics and Health (GA4GH). In addition to these perspectives from the frontlines, the book also provides succinct overviews of ethical, legal, social and IT challenges. Clinician investigators, clinicians affiliated with academic medical centers, policymakers and regulators will also gain insights that will allow them to navigate the increasingly complex ethical, social and clinical landscape of genomic data sharing.

Founding the ACC - The Origins of a Major Collegiate Athletic Conference, 1951-1953: Robert B McCormick Founding the ACC - The Origins of a Major Collegiate Athletic Conference, 1951-1953
Robert B McCormick
R881 Discovery Miles 8 810 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

In 1953, seven universities seceded from the NCAA's Southern Conference to form the Atlantic Coast Conference. Founding members Clemson, Duke, Maryland, North Carolina, North Carolina State, South Carolina and Wake Forest were soon joined by Virginia. Inspired by national academic and gambling scandals, and a bowl game crisis in 1951, the ACC's leaders hoped to reduce the commercialism and professionalism that permeated college athletics in the 1950s. This first ever full-length history examines founding of the ACC, the star athletes and coaches and football and basketball season highlights, along with the negotiations that led to the creation one of America's most successful athletic conferences.

An International Rediscovery of World War One - Distant Fronts (Paperback): Robert B McCormick, Araceli Hernandez-Laroche,... An International Rediscovery of World War One - Distant Fronts (Paperback)
Robert B McCormick, Araceli Hernandez-Laroche, Catherine G. Canino
R1,325 Discovery Miles 13 250 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

International contributors from the fields of political science, cultural studies, history, and literature grapple with both the local and global impact of World War I on marginal communities in China, Syria, Europe, Russia, and the Caribbean. Readers can uncover the neglected stories of this World War I as contributors draw particular attention to features of the war that are underrepresented such as Chinese contingent labor, East Prussian deportees, remittances from Syrian immigrants in the New World to struggling relatives in the Ottoman Empire, the war effort from Serbia to Martinique, and other war experiences. By redirecting focus away from the traditional areas of historical examination, such as battles on the Western Front and military strategy, this collection of chapters, international and interdisciplinary in nature, illustrates the war's omnipresence throughout the world, in particular its effect on less studied peoples and regions. The primary objective of this volume is to examine World War I through the lens of its forgotten participants, neglected stories, and underrepresented peoples.

Croatia Under Ante Pavelic - America, the Ustase and Croatian Genocide in World War II (Paperback): Robert B McCormick Croatia Under Ante Pavelic - America, the Ustase and Croatian Genocide in World War II (Paperback)
Robert B McCormick
R1,049 Discovery Miles 10 490 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Ante Pavelic was the leader of the fascist party of Croatia (the Ustase), who, on Adolf Hitler's instruction, became the leader of Croatia after the Nazi invasion of 1941. Pavelic was an extreme Croatian nationalist who believed that the Serbian people were an inferior race - he would preside over a genocide that ultimately killed an estimated 390,000 Serbs during World War II. Croatia under Ante Pavelic provides the full history of this period, with a special focus on the United States' role in the post-war settlement. Drawing on previously unpublished documents, Robert McCormick argues that President Harry S. Truman's Cold War priorities meant that Pavelic was never made to answer for his crimes. Today, the Ustase remains difficult legacy within Croatian society, partly as a result of Pavelic' political life in exile in South America. This is a new account of US foreign policy towards one of the Second World War's most brutal dictators and is an essential contribution to Croatian war-time history.

Revitalize Leadership Skills with Wisdom from the World's Best-Known Bible Passage

"What a joy to learn that David Davenport has placed his thoughts on paper! He has touched thousands with his teaching-may he and Blaine touch even more through this book."
-Max Lucado, best-selling author and pulpit minister, Oak Hills Church of Christ

"Providing fresh insight into one of the most cherished texts in the Bible, David Davenport and Blaine McCormick walk with us beside the 'quiet waters' of our contemplation and embolden us for ethical, fearless, and transformational leadership."
-Andrew K. Benton, president, Pepperdine University

"Shepherd Leadership extracts spiritual insights from the writings of one who was anointed by God to lead, David. It makes a tremendous contribution, not to the 'science' of leadership but, far more significantly, to its heart and soul."
-Richard Stearns, president, World Vision United States

"Shepherd Leadership is remarkable for showing how timeless truths-from one of the most significant passages in the Bible-apply to the complexities of contemporary organizations. It's abundantly clear that when leaders accept the call to lead like a shepherd, not only is the organizational culture improved, but so is the bottom line."
-Ken Blanchard, coauthor of The One Minute Manager and The Servant Leader and cofounder of the Center for FaithWalk Leadership
