The landscape of the Netherlands has been changing constantly since the end of the last ice age, some 11,700 years ago. Where we walk today was once a polar desert, a river delta or a shallow sea. The end of the last ice age marked the beginning of a new geological period - the Holocene, the relatively warm geological epoch in which we are still living today. The Atlas of the Holocene Netherlands contains special maps, supplemented by archaeological and historical information. These maps show the geographical situation for thirteen different points in time since the last ice age, based on tens of thousands of drill samples and the latest geological, soil and archaeological research. This magnificent atlas also paints a surprising picture of the position we humans have occupied in the landscape. It addresses such questions as: How did we take advantage of the opportunities offered by the landscape? And how did we mould the landscape to suit our own purposes? In dit boekje staan gebeurtenissen die ik meegemaakt heb op dit heerlijk eiland-je Curacao. Een eiland waar ik sinds 1982 woon. Dagelijkse voorvallen die op een of andere manier mij bij gebleven zijn en het verblijf hier op het eiland wat jus geven. Zeker is dat het wonen op dit eiland geen saaie aangelegenheid is en elke dag vraag ik me dan ook af, na al die jaren, wat gaan we nu weer mee maken? En jawel hoor, er is altijd wel iets dat in je geheugen blijft hangen. Om dat niet verloren te laten gaan heb ik al vast wat gebeurtenissen in dit boekje vastgelegd. Het zal niet het laatste boekje zijn in deze vorm. In ieder geval wens ik u veel leesplezier en dat u het eiland Curacao een warm hart toe draagt. Al zijn niet alle verhaaltjes zo positief, toch zie er de humor van in en de levenstijl die wij hanteren op dit eiland.

I want to invite you to go with me on a guided tour through the secret behind my drawings. I use techniques that have never been used before. That's why these techniques are unique all over the world! The drawing, 'Ram-man', is made by using a combination of three techniques: Pen and Ink - Color pencil - Soft pastels. Later in this book, at the drawing called 'Maunck', I will show you another new way of drawing, using a combination of four techniques which is also unique: Pen and Ink - Color pencil - Water color - Soft pastels. Welcome to "The World Drawing Humans". As you know, I have been working with pen and ink for over 35 years, in which time I have created my own style. Combinations of the techniques that I developed myself, can be found in my other books. In this book I want to focus on pure pen-and-ink drawings. This book has the same structure as the previous ones. This structure enables you to follow step by step and in a simple and pleasant way, how I create my drawings. This time, my object is the human body.

In this book the courses are different from those in regular books. The reason for this is that I believe everybody can draw and can place lines on paper. The problem is that most people are afraid of making mistakes, but what is a mistake? Something that someone else tells you is wrong? Or something, someone else doesn't like. In the past, I went to different schools and saw that there was not so much to learn. I knew already what to do and found out that children initially are not afraid of showing their masterpieces. The drawing was what they had in their minds at the time and transferred to paper. So I thought 'I can do that too' and started to draw. The outcome was not always perfect drawings, so I kept drawing day and night. Practice makes perfect. You do not need to be perfect or draw like others. You have to draw like YOU, your inner self. Create from your heart and soul and the rest will come from your inner self.
