Drawing on an extensive survey of real people and over 40 years of
research, this revealing volume proposes that a nonmonogamous
lifestyle may be healthier for marriages than a monogamous one.
Based on an exhaustive survey into the lives of real people,
Swinging in America: Love, Sex, and Marriage in the 21st Century
concludes that nonmonogamous relationships such as swinging and
polyamory offer a new blueprint for combining sex and love-one that
may prove more in line with the way people actually live their
lives in our society. Swinging in America begins with what we know
about swingers and the swinging lifestyle, based on personal
narratives and over 40 years of sociological research comparing
swinging and non-swinging couples on factors such as personal
happiness, marital satisfaction, psychological stability, and
personal values. The second half of the book explores the
historical rise and contemporary decline of monocentrism-the
sexually monogamous marriage as the organizing principle underlying
our culture-and the implications of this decline for new
nonmonogamous relationships and marriages. Includes data from a
national survey, conducted by the authors, of 1100 swingers in the
United States Offers first-person accounts from people in the
swinging lifestyle Provides extensive bibliographies after each
chapter documenting sources of information discussed in the text

discipleship. Effectively organized into four areasdefinitions,

Short, weekly fluency-building activities designed by phonics
expert Wiley Blevins give teachers of grades 3-6 the tools they
need to help struggling readers decode multisyllabic words and read
grade-level texts with confidence. Each set of activities includes
a skill-building mini-lesson targeting multisyllabic words,
follow-up practice pages to help students apply what they've
learned, a speed drill, and an activity that helps students master
the top 322 syllables, ten at a time. For use with Grades 3-6.

In this book, leading researchers in morphology, syntax, language
acquisition, psycholinguistics, and computational linguistics
address central questions about the form and acquisition of analogy
in grammar. What kinds of patterns do speakers select as the basis
for analogical extension? What types of items are particularly
susceptible or resistant to analogical pressures? At what levels do
analogical processes operate and how do processes interact? What
formal mechanisms are appropriate for modelling analogy? The novel
synthesis of typological, theoretical, computational, and
developmental paradigms in this volume brings us closer to
answering these questions than ever before.
This volume presents current research on the connections between
the home and family environment on children's mathematics
development. Focusing on infancy through first grade, it details
the role of parents and other caregivers in promoting numeracy and
the ways their active participation can prepare young children for
learning about formal mathematics. Research data answer key
questions regarding the development of numeracy alongside cognitive
and linguistic skills, early acquisition of specific math skills,
and numeracy of children with atypical language skills. The book
also provides practical recommendations for parents and other
caregivers as well as implications for future research studies and
curriculum design. Included in the coverage: Ways to optimize home
numeracy environments. Individual differences in numerical
abilities. Cross-cultural comparisons and ways to scaffold young
children's mathematical skills. Mathematics and language in the
home environment. Center-based and family-based child care. Games
and home numeracy practice. Early Childhood Mathematics Skill
Development in the Home Environment is an essential resource for
researchers, graduate students, and professionals in infancy and
early childhood development, child and school psychology, early
childhood education, social work, mathematics education, and
educational psychology.

Private detective Samuel Miller would like nothing more than to
spend his vacation on the beaches of Rhode Island with a drink in
his hand and a girl by his side. Even finding the host of a party
dead in his home fails to impede Sam's quest for rest and
relaxation. But when a second body is dumped on his doorstep, Sam
cannot help but acknowledge that someone is trying to interfere
with his leisure time. Evangelical showman Abraham Punditt seems to
be connected to the disruption to Miller's vacation, but the only
thing harder than taking the celebrity priest seriously is proving
his involvement in any nefarious activity; especially when he's
being lauded as the TV messiah guaranteed to answer the prayers of
New England's upper crust aristocracy. Under the counsel of his
partner Everett, Sam reluctantly marshals his forces, taking the
battle to Punditt's glorified holier-than-thou convention for the
damned in the capital city of Providence. Of course, the more the
merrier, so why not bring the girls along too? Everett's wife
Nicole views this as a wonderful educational opportunity, but
Miller's girlfriend Lil threatens bodily harm to anyone who
compromises her holiday plans. Along the way Sam encounters a
renegade state trooper, a drunk of a lawyer with a fake British
accent, and a washed up sex symbol who isn't that sexy to begin
with. He is shot at, beat up, and comes to find himself ensnared in
a web of blackmail, treachery, and deceit. All while giving himself
a tour of the Ocean State. It's a hell of a vacation.
