Mashups are mostly lightweight Web applications that offer new functionalities by combining, aggregating and transforming resources and services available on the Web. Popular examples include a map in their main offer, for instance for real estate, hotel recommendations, or navigation tools. Mashups may contain and mix client-side and server-side activity. Obviously, understanding the incoming resources (services, statistical figures, text, videos, etc.) is a precondition for optimally combining them, so that there is always some undercover semantics being used. By using semantic annotations, neutral mashups permute into the branded type of semantic mashups. Further and deeper semantic processing such as reasoning is the next step. The chapters of this book reflect the diversity of real-life semantic mashups. Two overview chapters take the reader to the environments where mashups are at home and review the regulations (standards, guidelines etc.) mashups are based on and confronted with. Chapters focusing on DBpedia, search engines and the Web of Things inspect the main Web surroundings of mashups. While mashups upgrading search queries may be nearer to the everyday experience of readers, mashups using DBpedia input and sensor data from the real world lead to important new and therefore less known developments. Finally, the diversity of mashups is tracked through a few application areas: mathematical knowledge, speech, crisis and disaster management, recommendations (for games), inner-city information, and tourism. Participants of the AI Mashup Challenge wrote all the chapters of this book. The authors were writing for their current and future colleagues - researchers and developers all over the Web who integrate mashup functionalities into their thinking and possibly into their applications.

This monograph summarizes what we know about summarizing, and offers a detailed analysis of professional summarizing. A computer simulation of the cognitive processes in expert summarizers is offered on the accompanying CD-ROM.

Die Beitrage dieses Tagungsbands befassen sich aus der Sicht der Linguistischen Datenverarbeitung und ihrer benachbarten Disziplinen mit den Interaktionsmoglichkeiten zwischen Mensch und Computer. Zu diesen Disziplinen gehoren z. B. Informatik, insbesondere Software-Engineering und Kunstliche Intelligenz, sowie Psychologie und Arbeitswissenschaft. Sowohl unter praktischen als auch unter theoretischen Gesichtspunkten wird untersucht, wie menschliche Informationsverarbeitung erklart und die Wechselwirkung zwischen Mensch und Computer optimiert werden kann und wie sich geeignete Software entwerfen lasst. Hierbei wird immer wieder die Moglichkeit naturlichsprachlicher Mensch-Computer-Dialoge im Vergleich zu anderen Interaktionsstilen diskutiert. Die Ansatze in den verschiedenen Disziplinen konnen zusammengenommen wichtige Anregungen fur die Linguistische Datenverarbeitung geben.

Die Beitrage behandeln aus verschiedenen Blickwinkeln einen durch die Begriffe Sozialwissenschaft-Informatik-Information abgegrenzten, interdisziplinaren Themenkomplex. Gerade in den Sozialwissenschaften haben die qualitative Textinterpretation und die Suche nach typischen, einzelnen Fallen ihren festen Stellenwert, und automatische Informationssuche und Informationsaufbereitung sind zu unverzichtbaren Forschungsinstrumenten geworden. Dieser Band enthalt eine Vielzahl von Fachbeitragen, die im Rahmen entsprechender Spezialveranstaltungen entstanden sind oder eigens fur diesen Band geschrieben wurden. Sowohl als Einfuhrungen wie auch im Rahmen spezieller Fragestellungen werden Ansatze aus den Gebieten kunstliche Intelligenz, Bilderkennung, Kommunikationsnetze, Hypertext, Szientometrie, Bibliometrie u. a., jeweils mit Bezug auf sozialwissenschaftliche Anwendung, vorgestellt."

Der vorliegende Samrnelband dokumentiert die GLDV-Jahrestagung 1985 "Sprachverarbei- tung in Information und Dokumentation". Die Gesellschaft fur Linguistische Datenver- arbeitung veranstaltete die Tagung in Kooperation mit der Fachgruppe 3 "Naturlich- sprachliche Systeme" im FA 1.2 der Gesellschaft fur Informatik (GI). Das programrnkomitee, besetzt mit Christopher Habel, Hans-Dieter Lutz, Wolfgang Wahlster und den Herausgebern, die auch die Tagung organisierten, wahlte die Beitrage unter dem Gesichtspunkt einer aufgeschlossenen Zusamrnenarbeit von Informa- tionswissenschaft, Kunstlicher Intelligenz und Linguistischer Datenverarbeitung aus. Rainer Kuhlen entwickelt in seinem Einleitungsreferat den Bezugsrahmen fur die weiteren Beitrage. Er weist nachdrucklich auf die handlungsorientierte Zielsetzung von Informationssystemen hin und auf die daraus resultierende Forderung an Wissen- schaftler, bei ihren Beitragen zur Gestaltung von Informationssystemen die pragma- tische Ausrichtung des Gesamtsystems angemessen zu berucksichtigen. Die lebhafte Diskussion uber die zinzelnen Vortrage wahrend der Tagung machte deutlich, wie sehr in einem Wissenschaftsfeld generell akzeptierte Leitvorstellungen Raum fur kontrare Meinungen und fruchtbar-heterogene Forschungsansatze lassen (oder schaffen). Wie verschieden die in der Forschung vertretenen Gesichtspunkte sind, zeigt schon die thematische Grobgruppierung der Vortrage, die als Gliederung des Tagungsbandes beibehalten wurde. Die in diesem Band nicht festgehaltenen Diskussionsveranstaltungen uber "LDV-Aus- bildung und-Berufsperspektiven" (Betreuung Hans-Dieter Lutz) und "Verbundforschung" (Betreuung Tobias Bruckner und Brigitte Endres-Niggemeyer) mit ihrem teilweise mehr als lebhaften Verlauf trugen dem Bedarf nach fachlicher und wissenschafts- politischer Meinungsbildung Rechnung.
