Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not
used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad
quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are
images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to
keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the
original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain
imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made
available for future generations to enjoy.
Pacific Pidgins and Creoles discusses the complex and fascinating
history of English-based pidgins in the Pacific, especially the
three closely related Melanesian pidgins: Tok Pisin, Pijin, and
Bislama. The book details the central role of the port of Sydney
and the linguistic synergies between Australia and the Pacific
islands in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, the role of
Pacific islander plantation labor overseas, and the differentiation
which has taken place in the pidgins spoken in the Melanesian
island states in the 20th century. It also looks at the future of
Pacific pidgins at a time of increasing vernacular language
endangerment.
This volume presents a list of cutting-edge protocols for the study
of CRISPR-Cas defense systems and their applications at the
genomic, genetic, biochemical and structural levels. CRISPR:
Methods and Protocols guides readers through techniques that have
been developed specifically for the analysis of CRISPR-Cas and
techniques adapted from standard protocols of DNA, RNA and protein
biology. Written in the highly successful Methods in Molecular
Biology series format, chapters include introductions to their
respective topics, lists of the necessary materials and reagents,
step-by-step, readily reproducible laboratory protocols, and tips
on troubleshooting and avoiding known pitfalls. Authoritative and
cutting-edge, CRISPR: Methods and Protocols provides a broad list
of tools and techniques to study the interdisciplinary aspects of
the prokaryotic CRISPR-Cas defense systems.
This book was originally a collection of autobiographical short
stories but I decided to turn it into a memoir novella. It does
stand on its own two feet as a single work but it can be read as a
collection of short stories. Memoirs of Love can be broken down
into three parts. The first part of this book is about my youth.
Most of these stories were written as a young man. These stories
are memoirs of love based on youthful adventures with my
grandfather, other family members and friends. The second part: At
Summer's End is a conventional love story between a young man and a
young lady. The last part of the book focuses on the first couple
of years I lived abroad. It is incomplete and I left out details
because I will write about this section in detail in a full length
novel that I am still writing. In fact this entire book with the
exception of At Summers' End is a sketch of an unfinished work. I
wrote this novella so that I could introduce my full length
novel-memoir to my readers. The story At Summers' End which is the
subtitle of my novella is the only story that's complete. However,
I leave out some minutiae for a full length novel of the story
mentioned above.
In this book, several world experts present (one part of) the
mathematical heritage of Kolmogorov. Each chapter treats one of his
research themes or a subject invented as a consequence of his
discoveries. The authors present his contributions, his methods,
the perspectives he opened to us, and the way in which this
research has evolved up to now. Coverage also includes examples of
recent applications and a presentation of the modern prospects.
This book, first published in 1931, provides a valuable account of
Rousseau's early years, giving an insight into his later
philosophies, as well as showing the development of his thought.
