This book examines a variety of issues related to wellbeing education and cross-cultural education, curriculum and pedagogy, education policy and systems, teacher education and professional development of educators, educational administration, management and leadership, and inclusive education. Stimulated, in part, by the launch of positive psychology, wellbeing education has grown worldwide. Various theories of wellbeing have been adopted in education, coining the term 'wellbeing education', defined in this book as how school leaders and teachers plan to implement evidence-informed wellbeing interventions to promote wellbeing and academic goals. This book investigates a series of questions related to wellbeing education, and how evidence-informed wellbeing approaches are integrated into learning, teaching, and education.
This book brings together an exciting group of international academics who are experienced teachers from a diverse range of disciplines with the common link being the development of innovative pedagogy which will enhance the quality of the learning dynamic. Lecturing and teaching are both art forms, at least if it is done well, and these have to be cultivated and honed. Whether you are a student studying education as a teaching student, an experienced teacher in schools, or a lecturer at university, this publication has an eclectic and informative set of chapters which provide not only ideas but real case examples of how different teaching techniques can work with a diverse group of students with an age range from four to one hundred and four. The latest technological advances are discussed as well as making the most of the more traditional techniques. However, the key is to improve the learning and teaching capabilities of the student and lecturer, respectively. No book is complete or can be regarded as the authority on any subject and this one does not profess to be. Continual improvement in our methods is a laudable goal in the academic profession and this book will afford the reader some excellent insights and discussion points which will aim to enhance the practice of teaching and thus the learning experience of our students.
Believing You Can is the First Step to Achieving is a fun and engaging programme for students in the upper primary years that teaches the difference between helpful and unhelpful thinking, increases self-belief and in doing so increases motivation to learn. Do you ever hear students using phrases such as "I'm not smart enough to do this?" or "I know I am going to fail?" Combining techniques from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Attribution Retraining, this programme teaches students the link between thoughts, feelings and actions, how to challenge negative thinking and how to celebrate success. The structured programme includes a photocopiable student workbook, role play games and other activity ideas, and all of the instruction and materials needed to easily implement the programme in any school. This will be an ideal resource for educational professionals looking to increase school attainment, support students who are underachieving, and encourage healthy and happy student development.
