The Fossil Fuel Revolution: Shale Gas and Tight Oil describes the
remarkable new energy resources being obtained from shale gas and
tight oil through a combination of directional drilling and staged
hydraulic fracturing, opening up substantial new energy reserves
for the 21st Century. The book includes the history of shale gas
development, the technology used to economically recover
hydrocarbons, and descriptions of the ten primary shale gas
resources of the United States. International shale resources,
environmental concerns, and policy issues are also addressed. This
book is intended as a reference on shale gas and tight oil for
industry members, undergraduate and graduate students, engineers
and geoscientists.
An arrogant scientist has successfully constructed a miniature
black hole singularity in the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. Thanks
to his ineptness and the failure of the French power grid, it get
loose, dropping into the Earth. The black hole begins orbiting the
planet's center of mass and slowly growing larger, consuming the
Earth. Dr. Barney Freeman and U.S. Navy Lieutenant Nicole Shelton
are tasked to stop it. They are not even sure how to reach it,
until coming up with an audacious plan to extract the singularity
from the Earth. In case they don't succeed, governments around the
world frantically embark on a space race to build lifeboats to try
to get at least some of humanity off the doomed planet. Nikki
Shelton finds herself face to face with the singularity, and
discovers that taming it may take everything she has, and just a
bit more.
