David Fontana
R293 Discovery Miles 2 930 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

The Tarot is one of the richest of all Western mystical traditions, used for centuries for divination, meditation and self-discovery. This book offers a brilliant practical overview for the modern seeker who wishes to use this system to explore their hidden anxieties, desires, tensions and contradictions. Destiny is not a set of circumstances dreamed up randomly by fate but a path that unfolds from self-understanding. This book shows how the Tarot can be used to illuminate that path. The author describes the history and symbolism of the Tarot, and then goes on to clarify in detail the meanings of the individual cards of the Major and Minor Arcana and the special characteristics of the four suits (Wands, Cups, Swords and Pentacles). An original and very helpful section explains how to deal and read the cards in tried-and-tested formats, such as the Horseshoe and the Celtic Cross. To illustrate the book David Fontana has chosen a much-acclaimed, specially devised deck, using traditional symbolism rooted in medieval and Renaissance practice. However, the text applies equally well to other popular decks in modern use, such as the Rider-Waite deck.
An invaluable feature of the book is the selection of special workshops - readings and interpretations, based on the circumstances of individual seekers.

This kit is a Tarot classic, combining inspiring, luminous illustrations that make the symbolism of the cards easy to grasp with a guidebook that clarifies the mysteries and symbolism of the Tarot and encourages users as they embark on their own journey of self-discovery with the cards. Author David Fontana's twin perspectives as Tarot expert and psychologist make this deck the most accessible and useful on the market. A highly respected psychologist with an abiding interest in the connection between symbols and the deeper levels of the unconscious, he was captivated by the way in which the Tarot communicates through universal visual symbolism. In the guidebook, he explains how focusing on Tarot symbols can provide us with keys to the vast amount of instinctive patterns of thought and behaviour that is normally inaccessible to our conscious minds, but which determines much of who we are and what we can become. Thus, accessing our unconscious through the Tarot can play a crucial role in our psychological and spiritual development. The kit contains: * The 22 Major Arcana cards and 56 Minor Arcana cards * An 80pp guidebook that gives insight into the history, symbolism and psychology of the Tarot, explains how to integrate the Tarot into your own life for self-discovery and positive change, and provides traditional layouts to guide you in your journey

Nightlights is a book of stories to read to children, but stories with a difference. It's a collection of twenty interactive meditation stories that have bene specially written to calm and relax your child at bedtime, while at the same time engaging and stimulating his or her imagination. These stories also help children in many other important ways. They help them to focus their minds and develop their powers of concentration and visualization, as well as learn more about emotions and feelings. Although not meditations in the strict sense, they do serve as a good preparation for learning real meditation later on. They also foster imagination and creativity, help children deal with their burgeoning anxieties, and help them take their first steps towards developing their own unique identity. In the Introduction, Civardi provides techniques to help parents develop their out-loud reading skills, shows how to create the right mood, and gives practical advice on how to talk with your child about what he or she has just heard. After each story, there is a brief list of affirmations which help to settle the message in the minds of both parent and child.

The Scole Report - An Account of an Investigation into the Genuineness of a Range of Physical Phenomena Associated with a Mediumistic Group in Norfolk, England (Paperback, New edition)
Montague Keen, Arthur J. Ellison, David Fontana
R580 Discovery Miles 5 800 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This edition is the reprint of the original report published in 1999 in the Proceedings of the Society of Psychical Research. In 1994 the development of psychic phenomena in Robin Foy's Group at the Scole Farmhouse came to the attention of the Society of Psychical Research. This report is the outcome of a two year investigation of the Group. It was conducted principally by three senior members of the Society for Psychical Research - the authors of this report. The authors' diverse professional backgrounds together with their many years of investigation of paranormal phenomena and the fact that most of the events described were experienced or witnessed simultaneously by at least three seasoned investigators improves the probability of authenticity. In the course of over 20 sittings, from 1995 to 1997, the investigators, together with other occasional researchers/sitters, witnessed a wide range of phenomena and were unable to detect any direct indication of fraud or deception. They encountered evidence favouring the hypothesis of intelligent forces able to influence material objects, and to convey associated meaningful messages, both visual and aural.

The question whether or not we survive physical death has occupied the minds of men and women since the dawn of recorded history. The spiritual traditions of both West and East have taught that death is not the end, but modern science generally dismisses such teachings. The fruit of a lifetime's research and experience by a world expert in the field, Is There An Afterlife? presents the most complete survey to date of the evidence, both historical and contemporary, for survival of physical death. It includes mediumship and channelling, spontaneous cases, hauntings, apparitions, near death experiences, out of the body experiences, Electronic Voice Phenomenon, Instrumental Transcommunication and recent laboratory work. It accepts that evidence is often disputed but makes the claim that much of the phenomena is inexplicable without some form of survival. It looks at the question of what survives-personality, memory, emotions and body image-in particular exploring the question of consciousness as primary to and not dependent on matter in the light of recent brain research and quantum physics. It discusses the possible nature of the afterlife, the common threads in Western and Eastern traditions, the common features of "many levels," group souls and reincarnation. As well a providing the broadest overview of the question, giving due weight to the claims both of science and religion, Is There An Afterlife? brings it into personal perspective. It asks how we should live in this life as if death is not the end, and suggests how we should change our behaviour accordingly.

Personality in the Workplace (Paperback, New Ed): David Fontana Personality in the Workplace (Paperback, New Ed)
David Fontana
R1,696 Discovery Miles 16 960 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Personality influences every aspect of our behaviour. Nowhere is this more true than in the workplace. From childhood to retirement, personality helps determine how we relate to others, how we approach our work, the level of our motivation, our ambitions and life goals, and our response to rules and regulations. Effective management, effective teaching, effective leadership all depend crucially upon our understanding of personality in others and in ourselves. Personality in the Workplace covers all aspects of personality assessment, personality development, and personality growth and change in a wide range of working environments, from the classroom to the office. Drawing upon extensive research findings and the author's personal experience as a leading psychologist, it discusses the major psychological theories of personality and goes on to examine how to get the best out of people, how to respond to their individual differences, how to understand the ways in which groups influence their members, how to recognise and respond to anxiety and to other inhibiting factors in people, and how to recognise serious personality problems. With its practical approach and easy jargon-free style, the book will be immediately accessible to students of organisational psychology and education, and will prove of great help to educators, to business people, to professional men and women, and to all those who have responsibility for the performance and wellbeing of others. David Fontana is currently Visiting Professor at the University of Algarve, Portugal, Distinguished Visiting Fellow at Cardiff University and Visiting Professor at Liverpool John Moores University. He is an educational and counselling psychologist with an extensive knowledge of personality in educational and occupational contexts. Among his many books, which together have been translated into 25 languages, are Managing Stress, Managing Time, Social Skills at Work, Psychology for Teachers and Managing Classroom Behaviour.
