The Outback Exodus story continues in Settled on the Coast. Our
survivors reach their destination and begin to build their new
lives. Each day brings new challenges in a destroyed world. The
challenge of bringing together such a diverse group and melding it
with the villagers of Gordon brings Jenn, Gavin and the members of
the committee closer together. Excerpt from the opening of Chapter
One We stand on the lookout at the edge of the escarpment looking
out across the flood plain to the coast and the village that was my
home as a child. The scene before us is much changed from the last
time I stood here more than 10 years ago. The earthquake that
devastated my outback home has changed the flood plain and the
tsunami which must have followed it has thrown up boats and debris
several miles from the coast. The highway that bisects the coastal
plain is cracked and lifted by the earth quake and there are
crevasses sending fissures and lines across the once pristine
paddocks that supported the dairy industry that this area was known
for. Now all that remains of the great herds of cattle are a few
stray head dotted in spots where the grass has survived and the
tsunami has not reached.
Sitting in the Sun is a collection of Australian Poetry about
nature, life and family. Dawn Millen pulls her unique insight into
words and poetry. Her love of nature, the vagaries of the weather
and the closeness of family is all part of her poetry. Cross into
Dawn's world and enjoy the different way she looks at life.
Every Day Poetry is inspired by the things I see and do in the
course of a day. Each poem was written on a separate day and to
remember a different incident. Poetry has been a big part of my
life since childhood and it is the memory of the poetry I read a
small child that keeps me writing poetry even now. From the nursery
rhymes to the poems of Wordsworth, Shelly and Byron I devoured
poetry as a child and continue to both read and write poetry in my
50's and plan to continue to do so as long as I am able to. The
rhythm of poetry runs through my days and many things I see and do
inspire poetry. A single word, a beautiful tree, the sky and the
sounds of a storm. Please enjoy the poems
Random Rhymes is a collection of old an new poetry written through
the widow of time and experience. Many of the poems have lain
hidden away for many years and are only seeing the light of day
now. Many have been taken from their hiding place and polished just
for this anthology. Poetry has always played a huge part in my life
and I cannot remember a time when I was not either writing poetry
or singing nursery rhymes. This brought a great love of poetry into
my life at a very early stage and it is a love that continues today
as I still read and recite other poetry as well as writing my own.
I currently live with my dog on a large and neglected block of land
in rural Australia, where the garden is a project under
construction. I have a busy life with my family. I spend many hours
writing each day with my dog curled up beside me or sitting on my
lap as I type. I look forward to hearing from my readers and thank
you for giving me the chance to play a part in your life's journey
as you are playing a part in mine.
Imagine waking up early one morning and quietly drinking your
coffee as you watch the sun rise over the Australian bush. The
parrots who normally squawk and chatter at this hour of the day are
silent, there is no traffic on the highway in the distance and the
dogs are silent and cowering in their kennels. What happens next
turns Jenn's whole world in a different direction. Her normal quiet
existence on the farm is now over. Jenn becomes one of the leaders
of a rag, tag band of travellers retreating from the disaster in
the Outback and assists in guiding them to her home village on the
coast. Welcome to New Years Day 2013 and the changing of the world
as Jenn, Gavin, Rhys, and their families knew it.
Sea Eagles and Quiet Hours consists of poetry written about life,
love, grief, nature in all her glory and just the ordinary things
that happen in the day of an extra ordinary life. My days are
filled with love, laughter, nature and family and from them comes
the inspiration that flows with my poetry. I have an affinity with
nature and the Australian weather and many of my poems are based on
fact and the things I see around me in the changing clouds, the
beautiful sea, the birds, animals and just quietly being. Many of
the latest series of poems have been written after walking on the
breakwall at beautiful Harrington on the Mid North Coast of New
South Wales, Australia and this wonderful place inspires many words
and moods as no two visits are the same. Please enjoy the visions
in your mind from the words you read. Poetry has been the
background of my life and haunts me often until I can get the words
from my mind to the page, it has helped me deal with great joy,
great sorrow and all the other emotions of my life. Words and
rhythm and rhyme have been the beat behind everything I see and
everything I do. In this way I capture the ordinary days in my
wonderful life. Please share some of the journey through my eyes
and my words.
Widowhood 103 was not part of the planned Widowhood Series. It came
about due to a happy accident. The author sent copies of Widowhood
101 and 102 to a friend to read. That triggered some unresolved
issues and this lady was finally able to grieve long held pain. Not
the pain of losing a loved one, but the pain of the loss of a
marriage and the loss of her dreams. Grief is very much a personal
time. It overcomes your life in moments and can sweep you into a
world of pain. Grief cannot be rushed, it can't be forced, all you
can do is feel the grief and let it flow. That pain needs to be
resolved and given time to become a dull ache. Once it dulls down
you learn to live again. The author has learned to live again,
slowly, step by step, it has happened.
