Elkeen van die karakters dra by tot die gevoel van gevangenheid wat die vakansie op die familieplaas onder ‘n vergrootglas bring.

Beatrice has no interest in even knowing this individual exists, until she discovers that he, along with his father, own some antiques that were passed down from father to son for years, including a very valuable violin, so starts her plan to get her hands on the goods, manipulating the simple minded fellow to do her will.

Roepman tells the story of a 1966 railway community told through the eyes of an 11-year-old boy called Timus (Paul Loots). Timus and his family are trapped within the structural violence caused by the government and the church at the time. An unlikely hero, Joon (John-Henry Opperman) often appears to save Timus when he's in trouble. These acts of kindness are seen by Timus as miracles.
