Have you ever felt butterflies in your stomach? This picture book
explores that feeling on a scary but exciting occasion: the first
day of school Rosie can't wait to start kindergarten: she's had her
pencils sharpened and her backpack ready for weeks. But suddenly,
on the night before the big day, her tummy hurts. Rosie's mom
reassures her that it's just butterflies in her belly and she'll
feel better soon. Much to Rosie's surprise, when she says hello to
a new friend on the bus, a butterfly flies out of her mouth! As the
day goes on, Rosie frees all her butterflies - and even helps
another shy student let go of hers, too.
A joyful celebration of God's deep love for little ones, God's Love
Is Like Sunshine takes a subject that could be confusing-God's
love-and makes it accessible to kiddos. How? By comparing that love
to objects and ideas children know and love, such as warm sunshine,
overflowing orange juice, and soft clouds. These comparisons paint
a beautiful picture of a love that is kind, gentle, and generous.
But most importantly, God's Love Is Like Sunshine celebrates how
God's love fills up our hearts so they overflow with kindness,
gentleness, and generosity for other people. With illustrations
that radiate childlike joy and a message that encourages little
ones to love God and the people around them, this sweet board book
is sure to make you smile.
The first day of school is
exciting--but it can be scary, too! Meet Rosie, a brand-new student
who just happens to have butterflies in her stomach. Rosie can't
wait to start kindergarten. She's had her pencils sharpened and her
backpack ready for weeks. But suddenly, on the night before the big
day, her tummy hurts. Rosie's mom reassures her that it's just
butterflies in her belly, and she'll feel better soon. Much to
Rosie's surprise, when she says hello to a new friend on the bus, a
butterfly flies out of her mouth! As the day goes on, Rosie frees
all her butterflies, and even helps another shy student let go of
hers, too.
There is the person who tells the story. This is the storyteller.
And there is the person who listens to the story. This is the story
friend. As a child treks across the land in search of someone to
tell his sad story to, he meets a gruff mountain man who can't
stand unhappy stories, a too busy to be bothered farmer, and
finally, the old woman who tells stories herself, who is willing to
listen. The act of telling the story leads the child to look at the
other side and make what was dark lighter and full of hope and
positivity. The true potency of needing to express one's
unhappiness and the power of having someone else listen and help is
a strong message for young readers. Like a favorite teacher or
mentor, they may not be around forever, just for a short but
meaningful time.
