Die Ergebnisse der Arbeiten des von mir geleiteten Instituts fUr Beton- und Eisenbetonbau veranlassen mich, diejenigen Angaben der 2. Auflage meines Ende 1923 erschienenen ersten Bandes der "Vor lesungen tiber Eisenbeton" zu erganzen, die bei einer Reihe von Fragen einer Klarung nahergebracht wurden. Die Sicherheit und gleichzeitig die Wirtschaftlichkeit ver langen, daB bei jeder Baukonstruktion zuerst die Zweckfrage beant wortet wird. Erst der Verwendungszweck ermoglicht die Wahl der geeigneten Zusammensetzung des Betons. Je nachdem man ein Material von hoher Elastizitat und Festigkeit oder von groBer Dich tigkeit oder beides gleichzeitig verlangt, wird man darnach die Richt. linien ftir die Zusammensetzung, Bereitung und Verarbeitung des Betons zu suchen haben. In diesem Sinne lasse ich aIle Materialfragen im Rahmen von allgemeinen Aufgaben behandeln. Weitere Arbeiten sind in meinem lnstitut im Gange oder in Vor bereitung. Das vorliegende Erganzungsheft hat daher nur den Zweck, Veraltetes oder "Uberholtes auszuscheiden und bis heute geklarte, neuere Gesichtspunkte und Richtlinien zusammenzufassen.
