Gaming has never been disconnected from reality. When we engage with ever more lavish virtual worlds, something happens to us. The game imposes itself on us and influences how we feel about it, the world, and ourselves. How do games accomplish this and to what end? The contributors explore the video game as an atmospheric medium of hitherto unimagined potential. Is the medium too powerful, too influential? A danger to our mental health or an ally through even the darkest of times? This volume compiles papers from the Young Academics Workshop at the Clash of Realities conferences of 2019 and 2020 to provide answers to these questions.

Modern communication technologies allow multinational companies to perform their marketing strategies on a global level, due to the possibility of executing cross-border transactions more and more efficiently in the short term. However in what way has the consequential development of growing together an effect on marketing relevant socio-cultural differences? The following paragraphs treat first and foremost the significance of intercultural aspects for global and local marketing strategies. Gathering different point of views towards brand characters shows the interest of a non-categorized thinking concerning brand perception. The initial definitions 'global'- 'local' brands are already suggestive of the ambiguous character of brands. Analyzing adaptation and standardizing branding strategies leads finally to the principal result of this work: reasoning that successful global branding always implies the creation of a strong brand personality.

Jahrhunderts mehr und mehr eine Zeit der innerstadtischen Auseinandersetzungen. Fruher sprach die Forschung in diesem Zusammenhang noch gerne allgemein von "Zunftkampfen" oder gar "Zunftrevolutionen," doch haben dieser und ahnliche Termini seit den sechziger Jahren immer weiter an Akzeptanz verloren und wurden - ausgehend von der Erkenntnis, dass die Zunfte in den Auseinandersetzungen in Wirklichkeit selten die entscheidende, tragende Kraft gewesen sind - durch den Begriff "Burgerkampfe" ersetzt. Mit diesen neuen Pramissen anderten sich auch die Vorzeichen, unter denen das Thema dieser Hausarbeit, der Aueraufstand, im Laufe der Zeit untersucht worden ist. Der Aueraufstand kann als Beispiel dafur gelten, wie Handwerkern und Zunften in der fruhen Forschung intuitiv eine Rolle zugewiesen wurde, die nach dem Zeitgeist der "Zunftkampfe" konstruiert, aber nicht durch Quellen belegt war. So geschehen etwa schon in Carl Theodor Gemeiners Regensburgischer Chronik aus dem fruhen 19. Jahrhundert. Fur die neuere Forschung grundlegend ist immernoch die mit umfangreichen Datenmaterial versehene Arbeit von Fritz Morre aus dem Jahre 1935, auf die sich bis heute berufen wird. Eine Bibliographie zum Aueraufstand bis 1995 findet sich in einem Aufsatz von Johann Schmuck. Am ehesten einer Gesamtdarstellung entspricht dann auch Schmucks Monographie "Ludwig der Bayer und die Reichsstadt Regensburg." Joseph Conrad illustrates in his highly valued novel numerous aspects of the European view of the African continent in the late 19th century. These times were characterized by an omnipresent pursue of establishing economically promising colonies in different parts of the world. Due to their vast repertoire of natural resources, African countries played an important role in the struggle about European hegemonic interests. However, aside from merely commercial matters, there was a certain need for moral justification based on ideological concepts. The novel's central character Marlow "reflects the authors perception"(Cf. Achebe 2000: 21 et seq.) of the Congo's inhabitants and nature, as well as his attitude towards the sense or nonsense of colonial enforcement of power. Analyzing Marlow's thoughts and comments, implies therefore drawing a picture of Conrad's mind and behavior patterns, developed during his engagement as a a captain on a steamship, in the course of Belgiums intention to exploit the Congo's natural and human resources. It is the act's impressive narrative style, as well as the subtle attempt to uncover Conrad's intentions, that prompt many critics to the position - represented among others by the famous Nigerian writer Chinua Achebe - that he has to be rated as being not only a good story-teller but also as being racist (Cf. Ibid.: 10, 25). Actually the novel contains several passages that confirm Achebe's opinion, for instance when Marlow, when speaking about the Congo's inhabitants, states disgustedly...
