Ground covers are widely thought of as utilitarian - we turn to
them when we have a problem that needs a solution. How fast will it
fill an area? Can we put it into the tight spaces between pavers?
How much foot traffic can it withstand? Yet these plants also offer
a diverse range of beautiful and intriguing options with a variety
of colours, textures, and forms. They can unify a landscape, knit
together plantings and hardscape, and add extra layers of beauty,
dynamism, and surprise. As a replacement for lawns, they can reduce
our use of water, fertilizer, pesticides, herbicides, carbon-based
fuels, and transform a yard into a diverse landscape of habitat and
food for native insects, birds, and other wildlife. In this
meticulously researched reference, nurseryman Gary Lewis profiles
more than 4000 ground covers that can perform these roles with
aplomb. No matter what kinds of conditions you're facing - shade,
dry soil, heavy clay, excess moisture - there's a ground cover that
will thrive and beautify your garden. Comprehensive, practical, and
copiously illustrated, this indispensable volume belongs on the
shelf of every designer, landscape architect, and serious gardener.
The third installment of dark poetry and art in the series 'Three
Worlds' by Gary Lewis. Inevitum tends to focus more on the
structure of order and the inevitable realm of our existence, in
contrast to the chaos portrayed in the previous works: Paradoxium 1
& 2.
Dark art and poetry. The second installment of the "Three Worlds"
series of books written by Gary Lewis. Paradoxium intends to
describe and depict the workings and perception of chaos in nature.
How it interacts and works in both the microcosm and macrocosm. As
opposed to the first Paradoxium book (The Place That Cannot Be)
which was themed around personality types and social chaos,
"Paradoxium II: Order from Chaos" is themed around the macrocosmic
evolution of events and what we call things, revolving around how
chaos carves and shapes order, delving deep into the pattern that
governs all events...Energy brings Order into Chaos, creating an
embodiment of Chaos...That Chaos brings Energy into Order, creating
an embodiment of Order...then that Order brings Chaos into Energy,
creating an embodiment of Energy. There is also plenty of fun and
interpersonal madness strewn about within the pages of chaos, for
entertainment.
Whether you're into poetry, occultism, spirituality, mystical
sciences, theories regarding the law of attraction, metaphysics,
art depicting the dark side of nature, unravelling reality, or just
like to read poetic and original thoughts of why things are...There
is something for everyone, in The Three Worlds series of poetry
books, depicting my very unique view of life experience and the
world itself and converting my specific views into universal
truths. This started as a side project of mine and over the years,
I have written many works of my extremely original and unique
theories, representations, and symbolisms. As it progressed, it
developed into an ever-evolving belief system, for me, personally.
The 'Paradoxium' books are first, in the series 'Three Worlds',
comprised of 'Paradoxium', 'Inevitum', and 'Relativium'. Read,
comprehend, and formulate, in your own way. Enjoy. - Gary Lewis
Recycled Reality is a collection of rhyming poems that I have
written over the years, as I pondered why things are. Many of them
offer deep insight into the soul and a chance to ask oneself deep
questions. I do not try to impose my own answers to life onto any
of my readers, as I believe we hold the answers to everything
already and we just don't know it, so we try to figure them out.
Some others are writings about life and situations, in general, and
still others deal with the deep workings of the mind and energies
that create our perceivable reality, which shapes us into who we
are, as we continue to make our own world and it makes
us...recycling reality.
In this study, I observed and interviewed six novice secondary
mathematics teachers who were attempting to implement the NCTM
(1991) Professional Standards for Teaching Mathematics. I found
that, overall, attempting such teaching added only modestly to
their stresses. One notable exception was that they reported that
managing classroom discourse utilizing student mathematical
thinking in central ways was very demanding. I also found several
new types of stresses not previously reported in the teacher stress
research literature, some of which related to novices attempts to
enact elements of the NCTM (1991) Standards. Novices identified
socially-oriented coping resources as the most effective in
alleviating their teaching stresses. Relying on their own
experiences and ideas was also important, particularly for those
novices without formally organized social resources (such as a
teacher learning community). The results suggest that novices
attempting ambitious teaching do so because they have commitments
that lead them to persevere in such teaching and are able to find
resources to support them in those attempts.
Drama set during World War I. When the war machines began rolling
in the summer of 1914, the devastation that it waged upon German,
British, and French troops was palpable. But as the winter winds
began to blow and the soldiers sat huddled in their trenches
awaiting the generous Christmas care packages sent by the families,
the sounds of warfare took a momentary backseat to the yearning for
brotherhood among all of mankind. It is here that the fate of a
French lieutenant, a Scottish priest, a German tenor, and a Danish
soprano's lives were about to be changed forever.
