The aim of the book is to present the state of the art of the theory of symmetric (Hermitian) matrix Riccati equations and to contribute to the development of the theory of non-symmetric Riccati equations as well as to certain classes of coupled and generalized Riccati equations occurring in differential games and stochastic control. The volume offers a complete treatment of generalized and coupled Riccati equations. It deals with differential, discrete-time, algebraic or periodic symmetric and non-symmetric equations, with special emphasis on those equations appearing in control and systems theory. Extensions to Riccati theory allow to tackle robust control problems in a unified approach. The book is intended to make available classical and recent results to engineers and mathematicians alike. It is accessible to graduate students in mathematics, applied mathematics, control engineering, physics or economics. Researchers working in any of the fields where Riccati equations are used can find the main results with the proper mathematical background.

The theory of partial differential equations of mathematical physics has been one of the most important fields of study in applied mathematics. This is essentially due to the frequent occurrence of partial differential equations in many branches of natural sciences and engineering. The present lecture notes have been written for the purpose of presenting an approach based mainly on the mathematical problems and their related solutions. The primary concern, therefore, is not with the general theory, but to provide students with the fundamental concepts, the underlying principles, and the techniques and methods of solution of partial differential equations of mathematical physics. One of the authors main goals is to present a fairly elementary and complete introduction to this subject which is suitable for the "first reading" and accessible for students of different specialities. The material in these lecture notes has been developed and extended from a set of lectures given at Saratov State University and reflects partially the research interests of the authors. It is intended for graduate and advanced undergraduate students in applied mathematics, computer sciences, physics, engineering, and other specialities. The prerequisites for its study are a standard basic course in mathematical analysis or advanced calculus, including elementary ordinary differential equations. Although various differential equations and problems considered in these lecture notes are physically motivated, a knowledge of the physics involved is not necessary for understanding the mathematical aspects of the solution of these problems.

Dieser Band beschreibt die Entwicklung der Alterserwerbstatigkeit in den letzten 10 Jahren und analysiert die Bedingungen fur den Zeitpunkt des Erwerbsaustritts von alteren Erwerbstatigen. In die Untersuchung wird ein breites Spektrum von Einflussfaktoren einbezogen, das von den institutionellen Rahmenbedingungen uber individuelle Entscheidungen im Hauhaltskontext, den Arbeitsbedingungen und betrieblicher Personalstrategien bis hin zur Arbeitsmarktpolitik reicht. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass die soziale Sicherung im Ruhestand starker als bisher auf einer langen Erwerbsphase beruhen wird.
