The Oxford Studies in Postcolonial Literatures series offers
stimulating and accessible introductions to definitive topics and
key genres and regions within the rapidly diversifying field of
postcolonial literary studies in English. It is often claimed that
unlike the British novel or the novel in indigenous Indian
languages, Anglophone fiction in India has no genealogy of its own.
Interrogating this received idea, Priyamvada Gopal shows how the
English-language or Anglophone Indian novel is a heterogeneous body
of fiction in which certain dominant trends and recurrent themes
are, nevertheless, discernible. It is a genre that has been
distinguished from its inception by a preoccupation with both
history and nation as these come together to shape what scholars
have termed 'the idea of India'. Structured around themes such as
'Gandhi and Fiction', 'The Bombay Novel', and 'The Novel of
Partition', this study traces lines of influence across significant
literary works and situates individual writers and texts in their
historical context. Its emergence out of the colonial encounter and
nation-formation has impelled the Anglophone novel to return
repeatedly to the question: 'What is India?' In the most
significant works of Anglophone fiction, 'India' emerges not just
as a theme but as a point of debate, reflection, and contestation.
Writers whose works are considered in their context include
Rabindranath Tagore, Mulk Raj Anand, RK Narayan, Salman Rushdie,
Nayantara Sahgal, Amitav Ghosh, Arundhati Roy, and Vikram Seth.
Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not
used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad
quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are
images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to
keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the
original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain
imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made

The topic of creativity has only been on the fringes of pedagogy as
it has been deemed either abstract or not measurable and therefore
non-standardizable for educational purposes. However, most
progressive educators from around the world used creativity as a
means for cultural reformation and as a means of social justice.
The focus of this edited book will be on culture and creativity.
Chapters will consider various topics related to creativity such as
- Is creativity cultural? How can creativity and culturally
relevant pedagogy go together? Given the current state of education
all over the world due to the Pandemic, topics related to
creativity and teaching remotely will also be featured. Teachers
often say one of two things - they are not creative or that they
don't have the time to be creative given the curricular,
administrative directions they are required to follow. However,
each day, teachers find exceptionally creative ways to engage their
students. Especially in the current situation of remote learning,
teachers are relying on their creativity to not only create
impactful lessons but also teach them creative lessons. While the
focus of this book will be around the topic of culture and
creativity, asking how it may be cultural; it will also cover a
wide range of topics related to creativity and pedagogy as noted in
the list of topics. Essentially, this book will ask if creativity
is cultural, what implications does this have in terms of
cultivating or teaching/learning creativity?
This book covers topics related to climate change, weather,
greenhouse effect, solar energy, various cycles including carbon,
hydraulic, sulphur, renewable energy conservation, ecology and
sustainable environment. The contents of the book include
pedagogical elements, such as exercises, tables and figures at
appropriate places in each chapter, including problems and
objective questions at end of each chapter, to aid in learning.
Further, the unit conversion from FPS system to SI unit of each
parameter, namely length, energy, power, velocity and pressure
force, etc, and some standard constants used in examples are also
provided in the book. The book also includes discussion about
renewable energy sources, namely solar energy, wind energy, biomass
energy and geothermal energy, etc, their availability and
eco-friendly nature. This book can be a useful reference for those
in academia and industry.

This volume conceptualizes and distinguishes storying from
narrative and storytelling to establish itself as a method. It
theorizes that storying pertains to ones' identity, to the unique
positions of who one is, how they came to be, and why they came to
be (Raj, 2019). Building upon foundational work from Freire,
Greene, and Clandinin & Connelly, this book elucidates storying
through a new concept "emotional truth"--a deeply personal and
authentic experience that builds a tangible connection from teller
to listener. Such an involved conception of Storying could have the
potential to anchor storying as research methodology and as valid
pedagogical practice. Further, the chapters in this book establish
storying as a concept, method, and as pedagogical practice.
The book seeks to comprehend how indigenous knowledge systems of
local communities can be effectively used in disaster management of
various types. A prime example is the 2015 Sendai Framework for
Disaster Risk Reduction, promoting indigenous environmental
management knowledge and practices. Traditional knowledge of
indigenous peoples includes information and insight that supplement
conventional science and environmental observations, a
comprehensive understanding of the environment, natural resources,
culture, and human interactions with them which is not documented
before. A great deal of this knowledge have been lost in
translation. In this book, the authors attempt to keep a record of
each and every traditional knowledge study of the indigenous
communities in managing the disasters. The use of indigenous
knowledge systems in disaster understanding and management is the
primary focus of the chapters.  This book is organized
into four major sections. The first part gives an overview and help
in conceptualizing the different concepts of hazard and disaster
perception and how response and adaptation are connected with it.
This part also discusses the concept of the connection between
hazard and sustainable development and how the understanding of
risk reduction and resilience can happen with the help of
indigenous knowledge, insights, and strategies. The second part of
the book introduces the different approaches to disaster and risk
management. It establishes how vulnerability influences the risk
associated with a hazard and the responses can be both positive and
negative in disaster management. The approaches of the indigenous
communities in managing a disaster, their resilience, capacity
building, and community-based preparedness will be the area of
prime focus in this chapter. Part 3 of this book describes the
concept of sustainability through indigenous knowledge and
practice. The sole highlight of this chapter is the indigenous
knowledge efficacies in disaster identification, risk reduction,
climate risk management, and climate action. The last section of
the book explores how to meet the gaps between local knowledge and
policy formulation. It highlights how traditional knowledge of the
indigenous communities can prove to be beneficial in developing a
holistic regional-based policy framework which will be easily
accepted by the target stakeholders since they will be more
acquainted with the local strategies and methods. This section ends
with an assessment and discussion of the gaps and future scopes in
disaster risk reduction through integrating local knowledge and
modern technologies.
