The Symposium .Symmetries in Science VI: From the Rotation Group to Quantum Algebras. was held at the Cloister Mehrerau, Bregenz, Austria, during the period August 2-7, 1992. The Symposium was held in honor of Professor Lawrence C. Biedenharn on the occasion of his 70th birthday. During the academic year 1966/67 I worked as research associate with Larry at Duke University and we have ever since maintained close contact. It was thus natural for me to take the initiative and to organize this Symposium in honor of Larry as a great scientist and friend. The response which the Symposium received showed the favorable reaction by the scientific community to the opportunity provided by the Symposium to honor our colleague, teacher and friend. Equally, the scientific contributions contained in this volume illustrate the high esteem in which he is held. Since the first edition of this book, sonography of the peripheral nervous system has evolved further. This second, revised edition includes many state-of-the-art high-resolution images, the text has been adapted to reflect the current state of the literature, and information is presented using a more modern layout. This book provides a practical, clinically oriented overview of all aspects of sonographic diagnosis and interventional therapy of the peripheral nervous system.

Mit der Umsetzung des Umweltprogramms der Bundesregierung begannen bedeutende Aktivitaten auf den Gebieten Forschung und Entwicklung von Umweltschutzmassnahmen. Zu Beginn standen vor allem Fragen der Luft- reinhaltung im Vordergrund. Fragen zum Verbleib der aus diesen Anlagen resultierenden festen und flussigen Reststoffe ruckten erst in letzter Zeit in den Mittelpunkt des Interesses. Fur kleine und mittlere Feuerungsanlagen mit fossilen Brennstoffen treten Emissionsbegrenzungen aufgrund von Fristen uberwiegend erst im Fruhjahr 1994 in Kraft. Die Durchfuhrung von Minderungsmassnahmen ist dabei durch neue gesetzliche Vorgaben ausnahmslos an oekologisch gunstige Loesungen der Reststoffentsorgungsproblematik gebunden. Ziel der vorliegenden Arbeit war die Entwicklung von Strategien, die es ermoeglichen, fur kleine und mittlere Feuerungsanlagen technisch-oekologisch geeignete, langfristig sichere und daruber hinaus wirtschaftliche Minderungs- alternativen herauszufinden. Neben der Konzeption und Bewertung rele- vanter Emissionsminderungsmassnahmen und Reststoffentsorgungsoptionen erfolgte erstmals die Generierung einer operationalisierten entscheidungs- unterstutzenden Methode fur die Auswahl von Luftreinhaltemassnahmen. Die praktische Umsetzung der Methode wurde am Beispiel der TA Luft- Feuerungen von Baden-Wurttemberg vorgenommen. Aufgebaut wurde auf einem umfangreichen Forschungsprojekt, das im Auf- trag des Umweltministeriums Baden-Wurttemberg am Institut fur Industrie- betriebslehre und Industrielle Produktion der Universitat Karlsruhe (TH) in den Jahren 1987 bis 1990 durchgefuhrt wurde.
