The discussion about the beginnings of Transitus-Mariae literature (apocryphal texts about the life and death of the Mother of Jesus) is marked by two hypotheses. The first is marked by the history of dogma and sees this literature in the context of the development of dogmatic doctrine, while the second, alternative, approach sees the origins of this literature in the area of heterodoxy. A fragment of an obviously very ancient Coptic text raises the question of whether the hypothesis from the history of dogma dates the genesis of this literature too late, while at the same time questioning the hypothesis placing the origins of the literature in the area of heterodoxy.

Fur dieses neuartige Woerterbuch der griechischen Woerter in den koptischen dokumentarischen Texten wurden die entsprechenden Editionsbande zugrunde gelegt. Es ist einerseits ein Hilfsmittel fur die Edition koptischer Texte, es kann andererseits Bedeutungs- und Lautverschiebungen gegenuber dem byzantinischen Griechisch aufzeigen und ist so auch von Interesse fur die Byzantinistik. Mit dem Woerterbuch wird ein seit Jahrzehnten als dringliches Forschungsdesiderat bezeichnetes Hilfsmittel zur Verfugung gestellt. Da Koptisch oftmals als Sprache des christlichen AEgyptens bezeichnet wurde, ist dieses Woerterbuch auch fur Theologinnen und Theologen von Bedeutung. Das Woerterbuch wurde im Rahmen eines vom Wissenschaftsfond (FWF) finanzierten Forschungsprojekts in der Papyrussammlung der OEsterreichischen Nationalbibliothek in Wien erstellt. Der Herausgeber ist promovierter Theologe.
