This collaborative work brings together international lawyers and
political scientists to explore whether and how the retreat of the
US, and the simultaneous rise of China, affect the dynamics of
multilateralism to which the EU claims to adhere. It focuses on the
trilateral interaction between these three actors and the policy
impact their interactions have in specific multilateral settings
and examines cooperation, competition and confrontation of these
three actors in key international organizations such as the WTO,
UNESCO, Human Rights Council and UNCLOS, NATO, the ASEAN Regional
Forum and the World Health Organization in times of Covid-19. It
also addresses their approaches and attitudes toward international
humanitarian norms and the peace process in the Middle-East. This
book offers an insightful exploration of the future of
multilateralism under the impact of the Trump administration and
probes the future of the liberal international order. It will
provide excellent reading material on current affairs for both
graduate and undergraduate students in international law and
international relations, in particular for courses relating to
international organization, multilateralism, or the US, China and
the EU in international affairs. For experienced researchers the
book proposes in-depth studies that relate to major debates in the
disciplines of international law and international relations.
This volume fills a gap in the literature regarding questions
around the interactive dynamics between law and diplomacy on
international trade and investment. It brings together lawyers and
political scientists from Europe and Asia in an interdisciplinary
effort at tracing the respective roles of law and diplomacy in the
relations of the European Union (EU) with its trade and investment
partners in Asia. Focusing on trade and investment relations with
Asia, the EU presents a particularly interesting case as it has
been a strong proponent of a rules-based international economic
order for years and a frequent user of the formal procedures
established in international treaties in case of disputes. At the
same time, it has kept diplomatically active to adjust dispute
management and international agreements to the needs and demands of
the partners involved. Furthermore, not only is this region of
crucial importance due to the presence of both vigorous emerging
economies, like China, India and Vietnam, and more established
partners, like Japan, EU-Asia relations also present a broad set of
economic disputes and recent negotiation efforts analyzed in the
contributions to this volume. This book will be of key interest to
scholars and students of international trade/economic law, EU
politics, EU external relations (law), international relations,
diplomacy and more broadly to international relations and Asian
studies.
Available in English for the first time, Once Iron Girls: Essays on
Gender by Post-Mao Chinese Literary Women brings together
twenty-five essays by seven critically acclaimed writers, whose
fiction and poetry have become classics in modern Chinese
literature. Poetic, metaphoric, and sometimes playful and satiric,
the essays discuss the material reality wherein Chinese women live
and function. Reflecting on their experiences under Mao and in
post-Maoist China, these essays vividly demonstrate that, despite
equality of the sexes being the official position and women working
equally demanding jobs as men, women are still considered servile
to their male counterparts. Taken together, the collection shows
Chinese women struggling for identity by discussing the issues that
are important in their lives. Unlike Western feminists, they do not
want to be seen as different from their male counterparts. Nor do
they want to fall into Chinese terminology of being the same as
men. Rather, these essays show that women want to be seen first and
foremost as human and then as female. By showcasing the politics
and poetics of Chinese women's essays to an English audience, Hui
Wu's translations uncover the philosophy and purpose behind the
literature of a unique generation of Chinese women, whose life
experience finds no parallel in China and certainly not in the
West.
Can your job change your personality? While traditionally
personality has been considered fixed and stable, recent thinking
indicates that this is not the case. Personality can be changed by
various work and vocational experiences, such as employment
conditions, career roles, job characteristics and training or
interventions. Drawing on a wide array of research in the field,
Wang and Wu provide a conceptual overview on how personality can be
changed at work by societal, organisational and job-related
factors, while considering how individuals can take an active
approach in changing their personality at work.

Delving into export restrictive measures this book links the key
areas of WTO law, public international law, investment and
competition law to expose how and why WTO rules on export dimension
are insufficient due to export bias; how public international law
helps to justify their adoption or maintenance; and how investment
and competition laws contribute to their regulation. Built on works
on accession protocols and national security exceptions, this book
goes beyond international trade law and looks into international
political economy, competition and investment law. It contributes
to debates in conceptualising public and private forms of export
restrictions, appreciating the complementary nature of trade and
competition law in disciplining them; capturing the dynamic between
trade and investment policies for their effectuation and
circumvention; and bridging trade law and public international law
to better understand their impositions for political and diplomatic
purposes with the invocation of the national security
justification.
Substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) is a new type of transmission
line. It implements a waveguide on a piece of printed circuit board
by emulating the side walls of the waveguide using two rows of
metal posts. It inherits the merits both from the microstrip for
compact size and easy integration, and from the waveguide for low
radiation loss, and thus opens another door to design efficient
microwave circuits and antennas at a low cost. This book presents a
two-dimensional fullwave analysis method to investigate an SIW
circuit composed of metal and dielectric posts. It combines the
cylindrical eigenfunction expansion and the method of moments to
avoid geometrical descritization of the posts. The method is
presented step-by-step, with all the necessary formulations
provided for a practitioner who wants to implement this method by
himself. This book covers the SIW circuit printed on either
homogeneous or inhomogeneous substrate, the microstrip-to-SIW
transition and the speed-up technique for the simulation of
symmetrical SIW circuits. Different types of SIW circuits are shown
and simulated using the proposed method. In addition, several slot
antennas and horn antennas fabricated using the SIW technology are
also given. Table of Contents: Introduction / SIW Circuits Composed
of Metallic Posts / SIW Circuits with Dielectric Posts / Even-Odd

This book gives a step-by-step presentation of a generalized
transmission line method to study the far-zone radiation of
antennas under a multilayer structure. Normally, a radiation
problem requires a full wave analysis which may be time consuming.
The beauty of the generalized transmission line method is that it
transforms the radiation problem for a specific type of structure,
say the multilayer structure excited by an antenna, into a circuit
problem that can be efficiently analyzed. Using the Reciprocity
Theorem and far-field approximation, the method computes the
far-zone radiation due to a Hertzian dipole within a multilayer
structure by solving an equivalent transmission line circuit. Since
an antenna can be modeled as a set of Hertzian dipoles, the method
could be used to predict the far-zone radiation of an antenna under
a multilayer structure. The analytical expression for the far-zone
field is derived for a structure with or without a polarizer. The
procedure of obtaining the Hertzian dipole model that is required
by the generalized transmission line method is also described.
Several examples are given to demonstrate the capabilities,
accuracy, and efficiency of this method. Table of Contents:

What makes some people more likely to initiate positive change
within their organizations? Can this behaviour be influenced by
management? Employee proactivity has largely been understood in
terms of employees changing their environment or changing
themselves. In this novel study Wu offers an alternative lens
through which to examine such behaviour - the concept of attachment
theory. Wu integrates the current understanding of motivational
factors in shaping proactive workers, through his introduction to
attachment theory, and development of it as a theoretical
framework. This compelling approach provides academics with a new
way of thinking about employee behaviour while also acting as a
guide for practitioners and managers.

At around the same time that Aristotle was active in ancient
Greece, many students in China, including Sun Tzu, who would later
write The Art of War, were learning the techniques of persuasion
from Guiguzi, "the Master of the Ghost Valley." This pre-Qin
dynasty recluse produced what is considered the earliest Chinese
treatise devoted entirely to the art of persuasion. Called Guiguzi
after its author, the text provides an indigenous rhetorical theory
and key persuasive strategies, some of which are still used by
those involved in decision making and negotiations in China today.
In "Guiguzi," China's First Treatise on Rhetoric, Hui Wu and C. Jan
Swearingen present a new critical translation of this foundational
work, which has great historical significance for the study of
Chinese rhetoric and communication and yet is little known to
Western readers.
