Taste the Textures reveals the mystery of human male sensuality in
poetic form. This gift quality book of free-style poetry tells
stories about the male mind as it interacts with erotic, sensual,
and romantic love from a respectful, non-vulgar healthy view. It
would serve well as an excellent academic supplement to any college
poetry course, due to it's unique perspective and emotional
prowess. The author lifts both male and female readers into deeply
personal, romantic events through poetic imagery. Adding
texture-manipulated photo-art of male and female nudes helps
further unfasten the buttons of sensual awareness and exhibits the
impressiveness of human art forms. Bravestone's collection of
non-pornographic art adds to the mood of his written expressions.
First published in 1969. George Eliot is a writer of ordinary human
experience, whose work emphasizes commonplace characters and
commonplace situations. Her mind, however, was far from ordinary.
Professor Adam shows how wit, observation and sympathy, combined
with a lucid and energetic intelligence, enabled her to invest the
commonplace with complexity and importance. Extracts from George
Eliot's major novels illustrate her treatment of character,
setting, dialogue and narrative, while the author's commentary
discusses the particulars of her artistic procedures and
techniques. This title will be of interest to students of
literature.
This second edition of an established textbook on political
ideology provides a comprehensive, up-to-date introduction to the
powerful and persuasive ideas which have motivated the actions of
both political leaders and the electorate. Political ideology today
begins with an explanation of the nature of ideology and the part
it plays in political life, and then looks at each of the main
ideologies in turn. The book takes a broadly historical approach to
show how each ideology has evolved as a tradition with a variety of
sometimes conflicting forms. Liberalism, socialism, conservatism,
Marxism, anarchism and fascism are all discussed, together with
more recent developments in religious and sexual politics,
environmentalism and animal rights. All of these are discussed in
the light of recent important events, including the Asian financial
crisis, the Balkan wars and the election of the New Labour
government. The book also takes into account the growing importance
of post-Marxism, communitarianism, multiculturalism, and
postmodernism. Adams shows that contemporary ideological thinking
is thriving, despite the 'end of ideology' proclaimed after the
capitalist West's triumph in the Cold War. He also discusses
prospects for future ideological developments, including the growth
of small scale and local ideologies. This book is suitable for A
level and undergraduate students of contemporary politics and
political theory.
Politicians still call themselves socialists, conservatives and
liberals, but among these groups exist very different
understandings of what these terms represent. This new book
provides a clear, comprehensive and up-to-date introduction to the
ideas and doctrines that have shaped, and will continue to shape,
British politics. The first section of the book looks at different
aspects of the wider context, the nature of political doctrines or
ideologies and the role they play in politics in general. The main
section of the book examines individual ideologies, broadly grouped
into two categories of "mainstream" ideologies--conservatism,
socialism, liberalism, and nationalism--and the "fringe"--namely
the Greens, the far left and the far right. British democracy,
economic policy and consensus, the nature of ideological thinking
and its place in politics are also considered. Finally, a short
section considers the future: what forces, such as globalization
and postmodernity, will shape the further development of those
doctrines which are part of British politics today? -- .

Originally published in 1978, The Making of Urban Scotland traces
the evolution of towns from their prehistoric origins to the
present day. Most of the material is based on research in
Scotland's archives, housed in the Scottish Record Office. Special
emphasis is placed on the causes of economic change and its
repercussions upon Scottish town life. The urban stresses of the
nineteenth century are analysed in detail, as well as the
subsequent emergence of Scotland as Western Europe's pre-eminent
council house society. The unique character of Scotland's housing
occupies two chapters and for the first time the whole panoply of
the statuary origins of the council house landscape is exposed.

Using molecular methods for plant disease diagnosis provides
diagnosticians with a number of advantages over more traditional
methods. They can allow the identification of morphologically
similar species, for example, or the detection of infection prior
to symptom formation. Not only can molecular tools help by
increasing the efficacy, accuracy and speed of diagnosis; their
common technological basis provides further benefits, especially
where resources are limited and traditional skills are hard to
sustain. This book provides protocols for nucleic acid-based
methods currently applied to plant pathogen detection and
identification. It takes the practitioner through the full range of
molecular diagnostic and detection methods and, as these generic
techniques are appropriate for use on any target with minimal
modification, also provides a useful resource for students of plant
pathology and plant pathologists. Beginning with the background and
future directions of the science, it then addresses DNA barcoding,
microarrays, polymerase chain reactions (PCR), quality assurance
and more, forming a complete reference on the subject.

Generosity, Worship, Prayer and Making More Disciples. These Bible
reading notes have been developed to help churches and individuals
explore the Holy Habits through prayerful engagement with the Bible
and live them out in whole-life, missional discipleship.
Winter tests our hope and resolve. In the Northern hemisphere the
temperature drops. Storms disturb. Light fades. But this time of
year also sees the festivals of Advent, Christmas and Epiphany.
Each in some way is a reminder that light is never totally absent.
Exploring a path through these festivals, Some Small Heaven seeks
to discover the light within the darkness of winter - and within
all our winters - to find some small heaven each day, even when
life comes at us tough, hard and bleak. Whether we are waiting for
a darkness to pass or yearning for a light to come, these daily
reflections and images enable us give our care and attention to
both the waiting and the yearning and to recognise the gifts that
such times may bring.
Ian Adams is one of the most striking, original and fresh voices in
contemporary Christian spirituality. Poetry features large in his
work and is an integral part of the two bestselling books he has
written. Poetry reading features in his work as a speaker, retreat
leader and spiritual director to individuals and to an online
community. He is frequently asked where his poems can be obtained.
His poems are short, arresting, richly textured and deceptively
simple. The thread that runs through these poems is Ian Adams'
instinct that if our world is to rediscover its harmony and peace,
that rediscovery can and must begin within each one of us. Through
attention and love we may begin to discover an unfurling from all
the fears and anxieties that keep us bound.

Ian Adams is perhaps the best-known landscape photographer in Ohio,
and in the first volume of A Photographer's Guide to Ohio, he
shared his knowledge of what to photograph in the Buckeye State and
how to photograph it. Now, in this second volume, Adams expands on
his previous work, adding over 120 natural features, scenic rivers
and byways, zoos and public gardens, historic buildings and murals,
and even winter lighting displays to the list of places to visit
and photograph in Ohio. In addition to advice on photographing
landscapes, he offers tips for capturing excellent images of
butterflies and dragonflies. Recognizing the rapid development of
new technologies, Adams includes pointers on smartphone
photography, lighting and composition, digital workflow, and
sharing images across a variety of platforms. The book is
illustrated with more than 100 color photographs. Comprehensive and
concise, these two volumes make up a travel and photography guide
to almost 300 of Ohio's most noteworthy and beautiful outdoor
places.

Reflections on the Psalms provides insightful commentary on each of
the Psalms from the same experienced team of writers that have made
Reflections for Daily Prayer so popular. It offers inspiring and
undated reflections on all 150 psalms, with longer psalms split
into parts in accordance with the Lectionary. Each reflection is
accompanied by its corresponding Psalm refrain and prayer from the
Common Worship Psalter, making this a valuable resource for
personal or devotional use. Specially written introductions by
Paula Gooder and Steven Croft explore the Psalms and the Bible and
the Psalms in the life of the Church.
As a philosophical and social concept, alienation covers a broad
range of mental states, both normal and abnormal. Correspondingly,
a wide range of literary forms has been employed to deal with this
important theme. In Three Authors of Alienation, an exploration of
the literary expression of alienation, M. Ian Adams discusses the
works of three contemporary Latin American authors. The fiction of
Maria Luisa Bombal, Juan Carlos Onetti, and Alejo Carpentier
reflects alienation, disgust with life, and a feeling of
nothingness arising from the conditions of modern society. However,
each author treats the theme differently. In La ultima niebla,
Maria Luisa Bombal uses poetic imagery to create the emotional life
of the protagonist. Juan Carlos Onetti portrays the schizoid
extreme of alienation with a complex of symbols based on changes of
vision caused by the mental states of his characters. In Los pasos
perdidos, Alejo Carpentier presents the problem of the modern
alienated artist who attempts to rid himself of his social
alienation by changing times and cultures. In his close analysis of
the works discussed, Adams considers each literary element in its
context and also in terms of its relation to the larger artistic
vision of the author. In addition, he places the works of the three
authors in the greater perspective of modern social problems by
discussing the concepts of social alienation proposed by Erich
Fromm and Erich Kahler. His conclusion is that, although disgust
with life and feelings of meaninglessness are at the heart of the
experiences of the characters of all three authors, only in Alejo
Carpentier's Los pasos perdidos are social conditions the major
cause of alienation. In the works of Bombal and Onetti, alienation
is a result not of social conditions, but of factors unique to the
characters' personalities and circumstances. Three Authors of
Alienation is a solid contribution to criticism of contemporary
Latin American narrative. Adams's projection of a social problem
into the realm of aesthetic experience yields intriguing
interpretations of both the problem and the literature.
