In this book we have attempted to confront a number of issues that
are intimately related to the theoretical basis of behavior
therapy. We believe that behavior therapy is an extremely efficient
procedure for the treatment of neurotic disorders; that it is based
on certain principles derived from learning theory; and that it is
unique in using basic scientific principles in psychology in the
service of applied and practical ends. We believe that we are here
dealing with much more than the advantageous use of serendipitous
borrowings from nonexistent principles, the cookbook collection of
precepts, methods, and working rules that happen to have lasting
effects. We also believe that there is truly a general principle
unde. rlying behavior therapy, rather than a varied mass of
nonintegrated therapies that have little in common other than a
name. These beliefs are often contes ted, but usually those who
oppose them do so on the basis of misconceptions and
misunderstandings that indicate a lack of knowledge of fundamental
facts. It is the purpose of this book to remove these
misconceptions and misunderstandings, and to bring up to date our
knowledge in certain fundamental areas of learning theory, behavior
therapy, and the biological foundations of per sonality and
individual differences. There are three major groups of
misconceptions and misunderstandings. The first of these relates to
beliefs held by many psychiatrists and cognitive psychologists
relating to behavior therapy."

A queen who begins a lengthy war with an army of allies by her side
is also a mother who wants to explain her upcoming battle with
cancer to her young children in this heartening and hopeful book.
James and Simon are two young princes whose mother, the Queen,
calls them into her throne room one day to explain that she is
about to enter a war against a rebel force called breast cancer.
She describes the changes that will be coming to the kingdom, such
as the recruitment of a very specialized general who will lead the
war effort, the acquisition of highly advanced weapons that target
rebel forces, and the calling of allies called red and white blood
cells who will police the kingdom and fight the numerous battles in
her name. The Queen also explains how innocent lives might be lost,
such as the cells that make her hair grow, but that the war is one
that can be won. And although she might grow very tired from all
the fighting, once the war is over her kingdom will be able to
rebuild and move forward into a bright future with the princes by
her side.

Current research estimates the number of people with Antisocial
Personality Disorder as somewhere between 1 in 25 and 1 in a 100.
Whether it is a coworker, a friend, a family member or a spouse, an
entanglement with a sociopath can turn your world upside down.
Laughter Effects: Humor and Inspiration for Victims of Sociopaths
is designed to reduce the post-traumatic stress associated with
exiting a relationship with a sociopath. Part inspirational, part
educational and part comic book, Laughter Effects highlights more
than sixty self-empowering comic images and reflections
specifically created for victims of sociopaths, a visual gallery of
healing words and images designed to reduce the effects of
psychological abuse, and a unique set of useful resources for
survivors, including professionals who specialize in the positive
effects of humor. "We hope to see you laughing and celebrating life
again " - Andrea I. Martin "This incredible little book not only
shows readers various words and images of humor that can help with
the effects of Antisocial Personality Disorder, but it also gives a
guide of internet sites, organizations, books, research, and
contributions from a variety of doctors (i.e., Patch Adams) and the
work they do to help others. Although this is quite a small book,
it holds a great deal of punch. It explores the world of the
sociopath - the ever-changing chameleon - and gives the research
and humor necessary to begin helping others in the world of
psychopathy, sociopathy, and psychology. A remarkable look at a
world that is something we would all rather not see, but should
know ahead of time how to deal with." - Feathered Quill Book
