Existentialism, Feminism and Simone de Beauvoir (Hardcover): J. Mahon Existentialism, Feminism and Simone de Beauvoir (Hardcover)
J. Mahon
R2,877 Discovery Miles 28 770 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Simone de Beauvoir made her own distinctive contribution to existentialism in the form of an ethics which diverged sharply from that of Jean-Paul Sartre. In her novels and philosophical essays of the 1940s she produced not just a recognizably existentialist ethics, but also a character ethics and an ethics for violence. These concerns, stemming from her own personal philosophical background, give a vital, contemporary resonance to her work. De Beauvoir's feminist classic The Second Sex reflects her earlier philosophical interests, and is considerably strengthened by this influence. This book defends her existentialist feminism against the many reproaches which have been levelled against it over several decades, not least the criticism that it is steeped in Sartrean masculinism.

A Psychoanalytic Odyssey - Painted Guinea Pigs, Dreams, and Other Realities (Paperback): Eugene J. Mahon A Psychoanalytic Odyssey - Painted Guinea Pigs, Dreams, and Other Realities (Paperback)
Eugene J. Mahon
R1,191 Discovery Miles 11 910 Ships in 12 - 19 working days

Psychoanalytic process, as Eugene Mahon envisions it, is an odyssey through the mind of each of his analysands, the many children and adults he has treated over the forty years of his analytic practice. The painted guinea pigs of the title refer to three-year old children mourning their school pet. Who painted him? a child asks when a replacement pet of a slightly different color arrives in the school a few days after the death of the original pet, as if the dead can return from the grave after a paint job. This book is full of arresting images like this as the author explores many of the most basic, fundamental concepts of psychoanalysis e.g. repression, insight, transference, play, child analysis, working through, dreams within dreams, jokes, puns, parapraxes as well as the uncanny in dreams, screen memories, symptom, character and Freud s discovery of the Oedipus complex. This book is a highly original, creative psychoanalytic odyssey, a most intriguing psychological voyage you will not want to disembark from."

Rensal the Redbit - A Psychoanalytic Fairytale (Paperback): Eugene J. Mahon Rensal the Redbit - A Psychoanalytic Fairytale (Paperback)
Eugene J. Mahon
R135 Discovery Miles 1 350 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

‘Many years ago in Mytherranea, before the stars had names, when daisies were still called days’ eyes, and the moon stayed up all night to keep the darkness company, there lived a race called redbits…’ So begins the tale of Rensal, a small creature trying to make sense of a big world. Running along one day, Rensal bumps into the Tall One, a wise and mysterious redbit who loves to talk. Over tea, toast, and berries, the friends discuss life, love, creation, dreams, death, and everything else that lies under the sun. This is a book that gets to the heart of what it is to be young, of the joys and sorrows and confusions of childhood, and of the questions that continue to be pertinent even when we are full-grown – how we live, how we love, and what – if anything – it all means.

In an effort to improve aircraft availability, this research compared the efficiency of ten methods of determining variance-to-mean ratios (VTMRs, VMRs, V/Ms) for repairable, spare aircraft parts known as reparables. These methods are base pipeline quantity, Hill-Stevens (220 LRUs), a variation of Hill-Stevens (10 1s), Hill-Stevens (230 LRUs), the Sherbrooke, a variation of Sherbrooke (10 1s), historical data, a new regression function, variance-to-mean ratio equals 1.00 or variance-to-mean ratio equals 1.01. Using VTMRs derived from quarterly organizational intermediate maintenance (OIM) demands for line-replaceable units (LRUs) from the D200A Secondary Item Requirement System (SIRS) databases in aircraft sustainability model scenarios and Excel spreadsheet simulation, this research concluded the VTMRs have an impact on aircraft availability and the cost of inventory.
