Foraging Behavior (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 1987): A.C. Kamil, J.R. Krebs, H. R. Pulliam Foraging Behavior (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 1987)

Foraging behavior has always been a central concern of ecology. Understanding what animals eat is clearly an essential component of under standing many ecological issues including energy flow, competition and adaptation. Theoretical and empirical developments in the late 1960's and 1970's led to a new emphasis in the study of foraging behavior, the study of individual animals in both field and laboratory. This development, in turn, led to an explosion of interest in foraging. Part of the reason for this explosion is that when foraging is studied at the individual level, it is relevant to many disciplines. Behaviorists, including ethologists and psychologists, are interested in any attempt to understand behavior. Ecologists know that a better understanding of foraging will contribute to resolving a number of important ecological issues. Anthropologists and others are applying the ideas coming out of the study of foraging behavior to problems within their disciplines. These developments led to a multidisciplinary symposium on foraging behavior, held as part of the 1978 Animal Behavior Society meetings in Seattle, Washington. Many ecologists, ethologists and psychologists participated or attended. The symposium was very successful. generating a high level of excitement. As a result, the participants decided to publish the proceedings of the symposium (Kami1 & Sargent 1981)."

Behavioural and Neural Aspects of Learning and Memory (Hardcover): J.R. Krebs, G. Horn Behavioural and Neural Aspects of Learning and Memory (Hardcover)
J.R. Krebs, G. Horn

The topics discussed in this volume have been chosen to represent studies in which both behavioural and neurobiological analysis have been emphasized. They include work on behavioural and neural aspects of imprinting, song learning in birds, and spatial memory of food-storing birds. There are also overviews of neural and behavioural aspects of classical conditioning, the role of the hippocampus in spatial behaviour in mammals, and studies of learning in invertebrate model systems. Each contribution has been written by a leading international authority and gives an up-to-date and concise account of current developments. The volume is based on a Royal Society Discussion Meeting held in February 1990 and the papers are being published in the Society's Philosophical Transactions Series B.

Behavioural Ecology - An Evolutionary Approach 4e (Paperback, 4th Edition): J.R. Krebs Behavioural Ecology - An Evolutionary Approach 4e (Paperback, 4th Edition)
J.R. Krebs
R2,036 Discovery Miles 20 360 Ships in 12 - 19 working days

Intended for graduate and upper level undergraduate courses in behavioural ecology where students are already familiar with the basic ideas, this book continues to define the subject. A completely new set of contributions has been brought together once more to take account of the many exciting new developments in the field. Each chapter presents a balanced view of the subject, integrating a clear exposition of the theory with a critical discussion of how predictions have been tested by experiments and comparative studies. In addition, the book points to unreconciled issues and possible future developments. Edited by two of the most highly regarded experts in the field, this new volume contains contributions from an international authorship and continues the tradition of clarity and accessibility established by the three previous editions.
The latest edition of a classic in behavioural ecology.
Divided into three sections: Mechanisms and Individual Behaviour, From Individual Behaviour to Social Systems, and Life Histories, Phylogenies and Populations.
Contributions from the world's leading researchers.
