Der Philologe Jacob Bernays (1792-1849) ist bis heute vorbildhaft
durch seine Methode der Rekonstruktion verloren gegangener antiker
Texte. Grosste Bedeutung hat seine Abhandlung uber Aristoteles'
Wirkung der Tragodie, in der er durch Sprachanalyse Aristoteles'
Auffassung uber den Begriff der Katharsis - als psychologisch
heilsame Erleichterung namlich - erschliesst. Diese Schrift hatte
grossen Einfluss auf Sigmund Freuds und Josef Breuers Studien zur
Hysterie" und auf Friedrich Nietzsches Geburt der Tragodie." In der
zweiten Abhandlung schalt Bernays aus einem Auszug eines Anonymus
aus Aristoteles' verlorenem Buch zur Komodie aus der Poetik" das
ursprunglich Aristotelische heraus. Er durchleuchtet die
Bestandteile der Komodie und diskutiert ihre grundlegenden
Begriffe: von den Lust- und Unlustgefuhlen des Zuschauers in
Tragodie und Komodie bis zum feinen komischen Charakter, der
