In this volume, experts on government examine historical as well as
contemporary contexts to government structures in the United States
and the states of the former U.S.S.R. Throughout, the contributors
look at federalism at both local and national levels, and they try
to assess how and why the two systems developed as they did. While
the political history of the former Soviet Union favored a central
monopoly-of-power system over a pluralism-of-separate-authority
approach, this provides only part of an answer to a complex issue.
Taken together the collection provides an exhaustive examination of
the opportunities and obstacles presented by government structures,
which reflect the need for both local autonomy and concerned
action. This volume will be of concern to political figures and
policymakers, constitutional experts, and political scientists.
Discover various techniques to develop maintainable code and keep
it in shape. Key Features Learn all about refactoring - why it is
important and how to do it Discover easy ways to refactor code with
examples Explore techniques that can be applied to most other
programming languages Book DescriptionRefactoring improves your
code without changing its behavior. With refactoring, the best
approach is to apply small targeted changes to a codebase. Instead
of doing a huge sweeping change to your code, refactoring is better
as a long-term and continuous enterprise. Refactoring TypeScript
explains how to spot bugs and remove them from your code. You'll
start by seeing how wordy conditionals, methods, and null checks
make code unhealthy and unstable. Whether it is identifying messy
nested conditionals or removing unnecessary methods, this book will
show various techniques to avoid these pitfalls and write code that
is easier to understand, maintain, and test. By the end of the
book, you'll have learned some of the main causes of unhealthy
code, tips to identify them and techniques to address them. What
you will learn Spot and fix common code smells to create code that
is easier to read and understand Discover ways to identify long
methods and refactor them Create objects that keep your code
flexible, maintainable, and testable Apply the Single
Responsibility Principle to develop less-coupled code Discover how
to combine different refactoring techniques Learn ways to solve the
issues caused by overusing primitives Who this book is forThis book
is designed for programmers who are looking to explore various
refactoring techniques to develop healthy and maintainable code.
Some experience in JavaScript and TypeScript can help you easily
grasp the concepts explained in this book.

line between madness and genius. Their new home of Purgatory,
Illinois is not the idyllic small town they thought it was. What
will happen on Halloween? Is the ancient society known as ECHO
lurking in the shadows? Waking Purgatory is a riveting mystery
exploding with unfulfilled family legacies soaked in despair
against mankind's obsession to open and explore the blind spot
between heaven and hell.
At the fabulous Windamere Resort, Katie Jones decides to fulfill a
dream by starting an employee rowing team. First she must convince
a handful of misfit female employees to abandon their stale lives
and join her. Next she must unravel the hotel secrets that surround
her mysterious and misanthropic boss, Simon Simples. This
tragicomic novel moves nimbly from start to finish with
entertaining characters that resonate from our personal lives.
Wade Jones is a good man, an honest man, a broken man. When his
wife Katie sends him to Colorado for the summer to regain his
confidence as a kayaker and reunite with callused old friends, Wade
never expected to meet his former college sweetheart, his bitter
old coach and a mysterious teenaged boy. Each wants something from
Wade that he can't provide with considerable and unseen
consequences. And then there's the river... a giant, snarling
whitewater snake. It wants something from Wade, too. Maybe his
life. Set against a mythic Western landscape checkered with
history, Hickey abducts the reader with engaging characters set in
motion in a fast-paced plot that keeps you guessing.
Role-playing is an easy way to create engaging, informative, and
inspiring sessions during your Staff Training at the start of the
summer. Unlike traditional role-playing, the situations to be
covered in this session will come with two descriptions: one for
the Camper (sometimes Campers), and one for the Counselor. In
almost all challenging situations with campers, counselors do not
know everything affecting a camper's thoughts and actions. With
dual descriptions, the audience (counselors at orientation) and
"Campers"(roles acted out by selected staff) will have a greater
insight into what is happening, than the Counselor (a volunteer
from the audience) arriving on the scene to resolve the problem. It
makes the role-playing more realistic.... and entertaining. These
sessions are designed to get all of your staff involved-from the
20-year veterans in leadership positions to the 17-year-old
first-timers. Contained in this book are over 100 role-playing
situations covering a broad range of camp situations and a
step-by-step process for running the training from preparation to
debriefing.
