crime. Provides new perspectives for students of sport studies,
criminology or sociology. Topical, with stories of crime,
corruption, doping and abuse in sport frequently in the news.
Theoretically sophisticated, offering important new critical tools
for understanding the sport-crime nexus.
This book explores various social, cultural, political and economic
issues through the lenses of various sport mega-events in the
twenty-first century, including the Olympic Games, and the World
Cup and European Championships in football. In a time where sport
mega-events are closely followed by controversies, legacy
discourses and questions of their governance, the chapters within
this book showcase why sport mega-events continue to ignite
important questions for scholars, commentators, fans and sport and
political authorities. By covering various topics emerging around
sport mega-events such as physical activity, legacies, rhetoric,
media coverage, environmental impacts, diplomacy and spectators'
experiences, this book breaks new ground as it considers a range of
longstanding and emerging socio-political issues relating broadly
to the staging of spectacular sport mega-events in the present-day.
This is a fascinating reading for students and researchers situated
in sociology, sport management, event management, political
science, sport studies, sport business, urban studies and leisure
studies. The chapters in this book were originally published as a
special issue of Sport in Society.

This book examines the concept of ‘lockdown leisure’ as closely
related to the Covid-19 pandemic. Through a range of
inter-disciplinary chapters, the volume unpacks leisure life in
lockdown contexts through a range of empirical, conceptual and
theoretical contributions. In many countries, a key response to the
global Covid-19 pandemic was the implementation of national,
regional or local lockdowns. Focusing on the diverse medium and
long-term socio-cultural impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic, this
book examining how various forms of lockdowns impacted leisure
activities, industries, cultures and spaces across a variety of
transnational contexts. It contains original chapters on topics
including but not limited to physical activity, cultural
participation, recreation and green spaces, technology, and social
exclusion. And so, it shows how Covid-19 lockdowns transformed
existing, and produced new, leisure activities. This book is a
fascinating reading for students and researchers of leisure
studies, sociology, media and cultural studies, youth studies, and
educational studies. The chapters in this book were originally
published in the journal, Leisure Studies.

Academic importance: The study of football and risk remains as
important as ever in the social life and a critical examination of
this relationship will touch the surface of wider trends (and
risks) in the 2020s and beyond. Topicality: Risk and football are
two elements that feature constantly in public debates. The book
discusses highly topical issues such as the FIFA World Cup's
expansion to 48 teams, the English Premier League's 'Project
Restart' (following Covid-19) and environmental risks in context of
the 2026 World Cup in Mexico, Canada, and the USA. Future-oriented:
A short and accessible text that aims to provide directions for
future research in the field. It will resonate well with
undergraduates, postgraduates and researchers developing projects
in this area. Newness and originality: There are currently very few
- if any - books that take a sociological approach to 'global
risks' specifically situated in football.
Offers an understanding of 'security' and 'safety' in the modern
world. Captures the dramatic moments in which COVID-19 transitioned
into a security threat with severe impacts on the world of football
and well beyond. Makes a series of timely and important
contributions and advances existing debates in the social study of
sports.

strange dialogue in which John discovers new perspectives and
solutions to life's big questions. On their rescue mission, their
friendship matures through a number of unexpected trials.
"Money and the Art of Losing Control" is for those of you who are
interested in how to make and spend money with a clear conscience
and who would like to understand more about economics than you can
learn at a university in Chicago. It is also for those of you who
would like to know how religion, thermodynamics, humour, sex and
philosophy can be combined into a simple working formula for a
really good life.
For a philosophy of a complete life to prevail, it has to admit
humanity.

The Swedish Road to the MOQ
If you enjoy the films of Ingmar Bergman and the books of Robert
Pirsig, you'll enjoy this book. It's often forgotten that much of
Pirsig's second book, "Lila. An Inquiry into Morals" was written in
a wood cabin on the Swedish coast. "Money and the Art of Losing
Control" expands on the rather bleak atmosphere of the former to
the knife edge of credibility. In a country that is cold and dark
for much of the year, it should come of no surprise that the
Swedish approach to life has developed an underlying black humour
with a touch of stoicism and the rather uninhibited Scandinavian
view (at least for my reserved English eyes) of human sexuality.
You will not have to read too far in Mr Andersson's book to find
all of these elements; often in combination.
Keeping in mind the caveat at the beginning of "Zen and the Art of
Motorcycle Maintenance" about it not being much concerned with
motorcycle maintenance or Zen, you will be disappointed if you are
looking to "Money and the Art of Losing Control" as a precise guide
for making money. However, in the same way that Pirsig's book is a
"meta-book" about motorcycle maintenance (in the sense of finding
the best attitude of mind before engaging in this type of
endeavour), you will likewise find Mr Andersson's book helpful in
developing the right attitude for money making... Oh, and on the
way (as we travel through the snowy Swedish forests with the happy
couple of John and Elsa), it is also worth noting that included in
the narrative are some useful insights about the good life as
viewed through the prism of Robert Pirsig's "Metaphysics of
Quality."
