The search for life outside the Earth has been one of the biggest
quests of mankind. We have reached a level in technology that
allows the first steps towards a scientific investigation. The aim
of this workshop was to take an interdisciplinary look at the
signatures that would be indicative for past or present life on
another planet, to compare them to biosignatures on Earth, and to
discuss state-of-the-art in-situ instruments that are envisioned to
search for these signatures in the exploration of the solar system
as well as concepts for the search for habitable planets around
other stars.
This book reports on the development and assessment of a novel
framework for studying neural interactions (the connectome) and
their dynamics (the chronnectome). Using EEG recordings taken
during an auditory oddball task performed by 48 patients with
schizophrenia and 87 healthy controls, and applying local and
network measures, changes in brain activation from pre-stimulus to
cognitive response were assessed, and significant differences were
observed between the patients and controls. This book investigates
the source of the network abnormalities and presents new evidence
for the disconnection hypothesis and the aberrant salience
hypothesis with regard to schizophrenia. Moreover, it puts forward
a novel approach to combining local regularity measures and graph
measures in order to characterize schizophrenia brain dynamics, and
presents interesting findings on the regularity of brain patterns
in healthy control subjects versus patients with schizophrenia.
Besides providing new evidence for the disconnection hypothesis, it
offers a source of inspiration for future research directions in
the field.
Biological membranes have long been identified as key elements in a
wide variety of cellular processes including cell defense
communication, photosynthesis, signal transduction, and motility;
thus they emerge as primary targets in both basic and applied
research. This book brings together in a single volume the most
recent views of experts in the area of proteina "lipid
interactions, providing an overview of the advances that have been
achieved in the field in recent years, from very basic aspects to
specialized technological applications. Topics include the
application of X-ray and neutron diffraction, infrared and
fluorescence spectroscopy, and high-resolution NMR to the
understanding of the specific interactions between lipids and
proteins within biological membranes, their structural
relationships, and the implications for the biological functions
that they mediate. Also covered in this volume are the insertion of
proteins and peptides into the membrane and the concomitant
formation of definite lipid domains within the membrane.

Javier Gomez, a highly talented figure painter of long experience
and excellent reputation, shares the secrets of his success in this
accessible 'how-to' guide to painting miniatures. He takes the
reader step-by-step through the whole process, from choice of
materials (unlike other available guides it is not linked to any
specific figure manufacturer) and preparation of the miniatures to
basing and even advice on photographing the finished item.
Techniques such as dry-brushing, ink-washing, shading and
highlighting are all explained clearly with the help of
step-by-step photographs and colour charts. Specific case studies
tackle a variety of useful subjects across all periods, such as
mixing realistic flesh tones for different races; painting horses;
guns and limbers; Medieval heraldry; Napoleonic uniforms; WW2 and
modern camouflage patterns. Javier also clearly explains how these
techniques and processes can be applied to all the major wargaming
scales, from 40mm down to 6mm. Whatever historical period (or
Sci-fi/Fantasy) and whatever scale the reader is interested in,
this book is an invaluable source of practical advice and
inspiration.
Revisitar el costumbrismo. Cosmopolitismo, pedagogias y
costumbrismo discutiendo problematicas esteticas, culturales y
naturaleza estructural y formas discursivas.
popular y sacra, tradiciones orales y monumentos arquitectonicos:
A proxeccion xacobea - Jakobsmythen in zwei
I was Diagnosis Retarded, chronicles the true story of a Mexican
immigrant who defied the cultural bias of the Los Angeles Unified
School District; an educational institution that branded him
mentally retarded but somehow overcame becoming a statistical
casualty. It outlines, the mitigating factors that altered his doom
reality; to help his escape the mean streets of East L. A. and
become a leading cultural warrior (treasure) in his community.
