Aboard the cruise ship, Roaming Dreamer, Diana Hunter, is about to encounter a level of adventure and danger far beyond anything described in a luxury cruise ship brochure. In 1949 her uncle, Bennett Hunter, escaped pursuit aboard a freighter departing from Los Angeles Harbor and took with him a sea chest with five priceless works of art. By the time his freighter saluted Lady Liberty in New York Harbor, the chest was empty, the art safely hidden. Now, someone wants the hidden art found, and they believe that Bennett's heir, Diana, can find it for them. Holding her father hostage, they shanghai Diana aboard a ship that will trace the route taken by Bennett. With her father's life the price of failure, Diana must decode her uncle's cryptic notes and search each port of call for the art. Joining in the hunt will be her past partner and lover, Nelson Langly and Abbie Winter, a mysterious friend of Diana's father.
When PI Diana Hunter accepts a case from corporate titan, Maude McCollvoy, she goes undercover as a homeless woman to check up on Maude's crusading son, Robby McCollvoy. The case leads Diana from the dark streets of Los Angeles to the corporate towers of the super rich and makes her doubt that anything is what it appears to be. Is the homeless shelter where Robby works really offering hope to the homeless, or is it a con that preys on everyone? Is the handsome Nelson Langly, who is also investigating the shelter, a true colleague or a dangerous adversary? Is shelter owner, Dorica June Grizel a small time con or a minor player in a much larger conspiracy. When Robby is murdered, Diana must also question Maude's motives. Did she hire Diana to protect Robby or spy on him? When Diana and Nelson find their own lives threatened they realize they must overcome their mutual suspicion, admit their mutual attraction, and work together. Combining their two pieces of the puzzle, they uncover an international financial and political conspiracy involving secret foreign investment, hidden money, hidden profits, and tax fraud. The problem is that this cabal is run by men of such power that they are immune to civil and criminal justice and manage to obstruct the case against them. In their rarefied world things are done, not by law, but by Corporatocracy Rules. With both justice and their own lives on the line, Diana and Nelson abandon legal procedures and resort to desperate measures for extracting justice in and extraordinary fashion.

Bennett's darkest secrets lead to a poisonous legacy that oozed out of defeated Fascism and still festers today in our country's hidden halls of power. If Diana is to survive she must use her investigative skill, her talent for disguise and a few close friends to expose a conspiracy at the highest levels of our government.
